Saitama man held over fatal hit-and-run

SAITAMA —

Police on Sunday arrested a Saitama man suspected of vehicular manslaughter. According to police, the man is insisting that his car had been stolen prior to the incident.

The man is suspected of hitting a 44-year-old postal worker who was riding a motorcycle on Saturday night, at an intersection in Saitama City. The victim died shortly afterwards in hospital.

The driver fled the scene. A few hours later, the owner of the car approached police himself to report his car stolen. However, police said that, based on discrepancies in the man’s story, they had issued a warrant for his arrest.

The man was quoted by police Monday as saying: “The collision was very violent. I got scared.”

Unless there were half eaten sandwiches and rice balls in the back seat as well as cans etc., then he is a liar and the car was not stolen.

My first thought is the police are confounded cause the guy is telling the truth and they can't figure how to fabricate a confession...
But because a person died I hope they actually get to bottom of this and find the truth. RIP postie.

Of course he car was conveniently stolen, and conveniently parked back at his house when they were done with it.
