Saitama woman held for murder after setting fire to husband

SAITAMA —

A 53-year-old woman has been arrested for murder after dousing her husband with kerosene and setting fire to him at their home in Saitama on Monday. According to police, Kumiko Oki approached her husband Fumio, 60, while he was sleeping around dawn, poured kerosene on him and set fire to him using a lighter. She has also been charged with arson after their 90-square-meter home was razed.

Oki was quoted by police as saying: “I hated him and wanted him dead.”

hahahaha !!!!!! Now she will stay in a jail cell all her life. SELF CONTROL - she should have divorced or seperated !!!!!

Good grief! I guess she got what she wanted?

Being accused of murder indicates the husband died, but not mention of him being taken to a hospital to be declared dead. Is he? I think people in this island country should learn the word 'divorce' or 'separation' Maybe even 'separate vacations' before resorting to kerosene. Horrible way to die.

    90-square-meter home was razed

If she did go to jail, she would probably get more living space. That is a small place they had. Probably just got tired of being too close with him.

What was she doing! She must be a terrible murder. Can you douse your husband with kerosene and set him on fire. Douse-drench. Horrible way to die.

No leaping on the pyre with him then. This was two crimes, so could be a Death Sentence.

I wonder if she got the idea from watching the Farrah Fawcett "Burning Bed" movie? Talk about a terrible way to go!

I wonder how long have they been married? She must have been simmering for a very long time and really hated him to do something so cruel.

@borscht >Being accused of murder indicates the husband died, but not mention of him being taken to a hospital to be declared dead. Is he

The burnt remains of a man's body were found at the foot of the stairs. Since the husband is missing, it is presumed that they are his remains. Some newspapers simply report that his remains were found.

This must have been a wake-up call for her husband that something was wrong with their relationship.

Some crimes are hard to solve and the motive is unclear but this “I hated him and wanted him dead.” says it all.

@bcbrownboy "don't mess with J-ladies!" J-ladies are mostly okay. Just think twice about marrying a Saitama girl!

Yikes! That's a lot of hatred and rage. Hope she pays for this horrific crime accordingly.

“I hated him and wanted him dead.”

I'm sure many other Japanese women share the same sentiment.

As they say, the only way out of a Japanese marriage is suicide or murder.

This guy had to be really out of it (or dead drunk)not to wake up when she poured kerosene on him.

“I hated him and wanted him dead.”

At least she was straight forward and didn't lie about it.

  • 0

If she really wanted to burn him she could have just divorced him...

  • 0

Divorce is inconvenient and would have taken longer...

Lets just wait for all the emotional this and physical that and hard time stories from this poor women. Death penalty no I dont agree with it, life in prison yes. A 5 year suspended sentence from the lay judges I would expect.

My Japanese wife was asking me today where she should send my ashes when I die!! I'm only 43 and not planning on going for a long time, perhaps she, like this woman, has other plans?!?!?

Women these days can wait until their hubby retires then take half his pension and divorce him.

set fire to him using a lighter.

    Ban lighters!

  • 0

Not trying to blame the victim here but is it possible that her husband did something to push her over the edge? There's not that many people that would go as far as to set someone on fire, either they're insane or they're enraged. As angry as I've been with someone, I've never thought to set them on fire. And this isn't a young girl this is a grown woman, who knows what she's put up with over the years.

@youdont know. I would not worry. Death costs a lot here and its typical in this particular culture to plan well in advance. Pity that just ashes and bone are just left. Write your will in case u get a bad one.

Talking about ashes after reading this story would rattle me a bit...

What goes on in Saitama should stay in Saitama =these people need to be fenced in and isolated like a FEMA camp.

This woman needs to be frozen in a block of ice and dropped in Antartica as punishment for her deeds.

There are few crimes as cowardly and disgusting as assaulting a sleeping person. He was 100% defenseless.

tuxedomichael: What the heck did the poor guy do to deserve this? Snore too loud?

Have you never experienced the 'Neanderthal' manners of a 'typical' 60 year old stubborn Japanese male, or even experienced the way they think about and treat women.

I am not surprised by what she thought about doing, i'm just shocked that she had the marbles to actually do it.

Very tragic incident.......probably with a nasty story/build up to such behaviour. Unless she is stark raving mad i doubt it was a one off incident.......before everyone condemns her lets hear what was behind her hatred for him...

    realist

An act of complete lunacy and barbarity. Japan is a really scary place these days, yet the Japanese still insist it is the safest country in the world. I hope they lock her up for the rest of her life.
