School teacher arrested for peeping up student's skirt in Oita

OITA —

Police on Monday arrested a 34-year-old school teacher for peeping up a schoolgirl’s skirt in Tsukumi City, Oita Prefecture.

Ryuichiro Sawada, 34, was arrested on the spot for trying to peep up the 15-year-old girl’s skirt near Tsukumi station around 6:50 a.m. when she was going up the stairs. Police said they have been paroling the area since they received information that a man was looking up schoolgirls’ skirts near the station in the morning.

Sawada denies the allegations, police said.

With all the extra security at train stations this week because of the G-8 summit, you'd think this idiot would have controlled his urges a bit more.

  • 0

    smartacus

Unless he was using a mirror or cell phone camera, he'll probably beat the rap. If I were his lawyer, I would point out that, considering how short the skirts of schoolgirls are, you can't help but ogle at them as they go up steps. But he deserves a good kick up the backside, if nothing else.

    8iamhappy8

These kinds of behaviors are becoming mainstream now. You just have to take a look at today's latest anime shows.

  • 0

    timcampi13

no matter if they are mainstream or not, its still not right. the man was invading their personal privacy. and its disgusting. he does deserve a good kick up the backside.

Although not defending the man, the short length of High school girls' skirts these days make looking anywhere but at one's own shoes a "peeping incident.

Just the other day, one of my female coworkers was pointing out (to another female co-worker) how one girl's attempt to hide her backside with her bag backfired as the bag apparently caught her hem and lifted it up for all to see as she climbed the stairs to the station. I had to take their word for it, and keep my eyes down but that caused me to bump into a Japanese man coming down the stairs (and looking up, most likely).

If they want to keep guys from looking up skirts, they should do either of two things: Make girls wear longer skirts, or make a special staircase for girls with skirts complete with multiple blinds so that no one can look up. the former makes more sense, the latter is more likely given that they already have women's only train cars.

Seriously, IMO, (AGAIN, NOT DEFENDING PEDOPHILES) There should be a waver that women sign when they wear a skirt so short as to barely cover their bottoms that says they are fully aware that they are inviting men to look up their skirts and they will not prosecute anyone who does look up their skirts. If they don't want to sign the waver, have them wear longer skirts, or jeans etc. The fashion world is full of alternatives. I don't buy the argument that girls HAVE to wear short skirts. It may be peer pressure driving girls to hike up their skirts, but that's the same pressure to smoke, have sex for money, etc. Just because its there doesn't mean its okay.

Again, I am NOT defending a peeping tom, but merely saying that this man could merely have been walking up the stairs and looked up at the wrong moment just as easily as he could be the alleged mass-peeper that police were looking for. We'll probably never hear any more about this case from JT to be sure.

A little perverted I must say but if you dress sexy youre going to get people looking at you. Thats human nature. Cops are just as perverted also. Why do they roll their skirts up anyway? There must be a reason. People stare at me all the time like Im a monster because Im not Japanese. Can they be arrested for some kind of visual prejudice?

  • 0

    asdfghjkl

If people choose to wear short skirts, then expect to be peeped. However shouldn't the government change the school uniform or something!

But this guy seems to be the real deal, standing there for a while and actually making an elongated attempt at peeping.

  • 0

    thebottomline

I don't get it! Was he bending down behind her with his tongue hanging out, or was he under the stairs peeping with steamed up glasses?

  • 0

    Youdontknow

Ooh, I know, How about changing the skirts for something more appropriate? With some of the girls at schools these days, they look more like glamor models!! It's hard to resist staring at some of them, after all, they do look amazingly beautiful...BUT, personally I do not go further than admiring their beauty. This sick dude obviously did and would have done well to get himself a woman!

  • 0

    papasmurfinjapan

Many people may not realise, but most school uniforms, in their original form, are extremely modest. It's only when the girls get "creative" and shorten the skirts, leave a few buttons undone on their shirts etc. that it becomes provocative - and it is completely deliberate.

If deliberately shortened skirts are not worn for the express purpose of showing off legs and panties, then why do girls wear them?

As with USAKuma, I'm not trying to defend perverts. But surely some of the blame must lie with the "victims" themselves.

    WilliB

Wait a sec, isn´t this kind of ridiculous? Apparently, he did not do anything chikan, didn´t film anything, he simply looked up while going up the escalator? Hell, if that is criminal now then I have to worry about getting arrested. What exactly do you do when a bunch of miniskirted high school girls is ahead of you? Studiously crank your neck to look somewhere else?

  • 0

    timorborder

The guy is an alleged pervert any way you cut it, he is a mature adult male (in a position of trust) and he should know better. The length of the kid's skirt has nothing to do with it.

  • 0

    lipscombe

agree with many of the points made above, if Japan wasnt run by a group of geriatric pervs then schoolgirls might not have to wear such ridiculous outfits. sounds like this guy was going out of his way to get a peep but if they start cracking down hard on this how many innocent people will be arrested because some little scrubber who decides to hike her skirt up says so?

  • 0

    bushlover

Like WilliB said it can't be avoided on escalators sometimes and I for one do look. If it's gonna hang in my face I'm gonna look. Screw your political correctness in condemning before you know full facts. Unless this guy stuck his cell phone camera under her skirt or his head I'm not sure how 'guilty' this guy is.

  • 0

    papasmurfinjapan

What exactly do you do when a bunch of miniskirted high school girls is ahead of you? Studiously crank your neck to look somewhere else?

Actually, yes. I think that is what they expect us to do. And put your hands in your pockets or somewhere above your head so they are completely visible.

Personally I don't care what they expect us to do. I look where I damn well please. I'm not going to take photos, I'm not going to touch anyone, I'm not even going to go out of my way to have a perv, but if it is within my direct line of sight, why should I be forced to look away? I am doing nothing wrong. If anything, they should be cautioned by the police for indecent exposure.

But yes, the guy in this article seems to be the real-deal, not some poor sod just walking up the steps who got busted for looking up the steps instead of at his feet.

  • 0

    RMGTTF

I say get the police to solve real crimes, seriously, I mean that was pervert but what if he was just there saw the girl with the miniskirt approaching and though.. what the hell.. let's have a free view. Pervert though but not like for jailing

  • 0

    WilliB

    RMGTTF:

" I say get the police to solve real crimes, "

In Japan? Wouldn`t we all wish that.

  • 0

    serindipity

Yeah, a hard call this one. It happens every day and in most cases it's unavoidable except for staring at your feet. However, this guy seems to have built a bit of a reputation for himself at this station. Unless there is actual security footage of him purposely having a perve he'll get off with a warning and be at it again tomorrow.

  • 0

    blvtzpk

According to the D Yomiuri this was not random or unplanned: the guy had apparently found a strategic location for viewing, had been there before, and was interested in seeing one particular lass.

The 34-year-old teacher allegedly was peering through a gap in a wind panel attached to the hand rail of the stairs, according to officers from Tsukumi Police Station.

    -snip-

The police station received a report in mid-June that a man was coming to the station in the mornings to look up the skirt of a girl on her way to school.

    TheguyNextdoor

The school boards are looking into changing the seasonal uniform for females to slacks. it has started in some the school, but remains optional. the reason for the change was health and welfare. Winter time they feel the slacks would keep children from becoming ill and as for welfare, well this article proves that.

whats the big deal ? i always take a peek if there's a good tushy shot right in front of me

  • 0

    jonobugs

I believe that as usual, JT has not really given us the full story. I really doubt that the police would take time out of their schedule to arrest someone for following behind a girl with a skirt. We've all been there and whether or not this guy was looking it would be an impossible case to prove that unless he was deliberately craning his neck or something else obvious.

To have complaints, there was probably some sort of intent shown. Blaming the 'vicims' is such an old and invalid argument. I'm sure that those girls that dress provocatively welcome looks (maybe not oggling) otherwise they would probably stop dressing in such a manner. For school girls, almost all the regular uniforms that I have seen have been quite long, well past the knees. The uniforms that are quite short, have been shortened temporarily by the girls who roll up the band at the top. Whether they do this for fashion, for attention or simply because it's too hot is unknown, but the owners themselves change the uniform. Therefore, I suggest that to blame the dress code is a bad argument as well.

I think the reason why the Japanese school girls' outfit has become such an iconic feature is simply that it represents youth. Take that for what you will.

Is this story news worthy? I really doubt it. The only reason it's probably in the news is because the pervert is a school teacher which makes his crimes more heinous.

  • 0

    romulus3

I think that he must not have just taken a quick peek. He must have contorted his body and twisted his head and made a real scene to get busted.

    @USAkuma, et al, re: PEDOPHILES

There's a Western cultural issue that I'd like to point out to the English speaking folks here (and back in their respective home countries), who are probably unaware of their own history.

Pedophilia is the sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children. Ephebophilia is the sexual attraction to minors who are post-pubescent.

Culturally, the hyper-reactive disgust some feel for the latter group is historically recent. There are many people alive today who were born in a time when such a reaction did not even exist, let alone get used to ruin a person's entire life. Most of those people have adapted to this change in social conditioning, although they may not entirely agree with it.

For those who are angry at people like this teacher (is alleged to be), know that it is social-conditioning before you start throwing stones at them. You are free to think what you want, but try a little harder to justify your actions.

    PepinGalarga

if he was standing around then he was asking for it. there should be nothing wrong if a guy catches an accidental look, as long as he doesnt take pictures or break his neck while at it. exhibitionism is also fashionable in Japan, so i guess that's half of the story (although not here this is a classic straight stalker case haha).

if guys would wear skirts then would women get busted too? i wonder if this happens in scotland.

  • 0

    nandakandamanda

PepinGalarga: "if guys wore skirts then would women get busted too? i wonder if this happens in scotland?"

Never heard of women looking up men's kilts in Scotland, and I used to wear a kilt regularly.

In this case the guy was regularly peeping up through a crack and goodness knows what else he was doing as he watched.

  • 0

The skirt is just being used as an excuse. The real problem goes WAY DEEPER than how short the girl-schools skirts are. I'm sure you're all aware of the smutty magazines that prime the society from an elementary school level for affordable small change, graduating to Jr. High, High, and on up. Its as if they indoctrinate the whole population right from the get go. They sell right along with the newspapers at practically every local Kiosk. Whenever I buy a paper, I have to overlook all the boobs and skirt pulling of teenagers and pre-teens on the covers of multiple magazines, just as the mother is leading her hatted-elementary darling off to trains. Why don't Japanese women protest such exposure? Again, it ain't just the skirt!

  • 0

    Zer00

Agree with USAkuma! Nevertheless, if the man had got himself a regular spot to check out someone in particular, then thats akin to stalking and he requires some straightening up!

  • 0

    Sarge

"when she was going up the stairs"

Heck, whenever some schoolgirl in a short skirt is on the stairs or the escalator, any number of people below can see her legs all the way up to her panties.

romulus - "he must have contorted his body and twisted his head"

Ha ha ha I've seen guys do that!

  • 0

    shmave

Cops are just as perverted also.

That's why the cops arrested him....so they can ask him what color her undies were.

They roll them up so high to be sexy and cool. Obviously the girls are trying to get attention and they are getting it. But if it's from their wrong type of guy (not an IKEMEN) then it's "not called for."

Get the girls to wear them as they were designed, then 'upskirts' will decrease.

  • 0

    Kameleon

    This story amuses me.

The real culprits in my mind are the school boards that design these uniforms to be all dainty and pretty - completely neglecting practicality and education.

Think about it, you design a school uniform - you have the girls wear short skirts?

    You iz a dodgy man.

  • 0

    Hughgarse

doesn`t seem to be near enough information here to make any comment really. Either he was on the ground to get a beter angle, or he just looked up the stairs.. as we tend to do when walking up stairs..

  • 0

    pizzaboy

i agree with hughgarse and others, if all he was doing was just looking up as he was walking up the stairs, it should be ok. He was probably hanging around at the bottom of the stairs on a regular basis, and received complaints or something. It's impossible to be arrested for simply looking up a gals skirt while walking up the stairs.

  • 0

    keshii

Yet another story about a Japanese man perving on schoolgirls. I wonder why we never seem to hear about any unwanted lesbian attentions? Or heaven forbid, stalking!

Also, I'm curious about what age of students this teacher is in charge of... And whether or not he'll keep his job, which he probably will.

  • 0

    Jaebez1975

I'll agree not enough information to really comment.

  • 0

    serindipity

I think there is another side to this story. Probably guy this was having a bit of a perve regularly, but this arrest has opened up the door for any woman to claim a man was looking up her skirt regardless of intention.

And furthermore, if he was looking up a girl's skirt I doubt if there is a man in this forum (or country) who hasn't done so at least once! - Build it and they will come - Show it off and they will look!

  • 0

    Speed

    Short skirts are good.

  • 0

    Ah_so

Not so long ago, I had to walk past a group of girls at the station who were all sitting on the stairs going up at the end of the platform. They had all had short skirts on and were all sitting on about the 10th step with their skirts at about eye-height to a man. Skirts below the knee conceal little in this postion.

They must have been doing it quite deliberately - to attract the eyes of men trying to walk down the platform and also to embarrass them. It certainly worked.

  • 0

    ambrosia

Then have the damn girls wear trousers and be done with this nonsense! I suggested this to one of my friends who has a school-age daughter and she looked at me as if I'd suggested they push the big Buddha into the ocean. Unbelievable! Why do they have to wear skirts? If they're going to roll them up and make it sooooooooo hard for the poor (said with sarcasm) males teachers and commuters to concentrate, then have them wear trousers. It seems pretty damn simple.

  • 0

    ambrosia

tjrandom, I see your point but think that comparing slacks to a chador is a bad analogy and one aimed at appealing to emotion rather than logic. Look around and you'll see that plenty of girls and women opt to wear slacks because they're comfortable and practical. The idea that women have to wear skirts in order to be formally dressed or respectable is about as dumb as the idea of ties and nylons. At the very least give them the option. I know when I was that age I would have gone for the slacks as would have most of my friends. There are plenty of ways to test the limits beyond making your uniform into a skirt little wider than a belt.

  • 0

    Eizenhauer

What an idiot of a teacher! He probably peered up her skirt in such an obvious way that other students reported him immediately to the principal. But wait, did he molest her, touch her or showed any seductive gestures towards her? Arrested for a quick peek up the stairs where the young slut with super short skirt happened to walk?! Give the man his job back and apologize to him for this inhumane and unusual extreme humiliation...

  • 0

    WMD

Well everyday going up the stairs I get at least 1 glimpse of the great divide. I mean I'm looking upwards as I'm walking upwards. I don't ask for the great divide show, it just appears. What is a guy supposed to do??

If this dude was laying in wait for the perv-fest, then, yea, book em, Dano, but jeeze, luise, if a normal dude is looking around and his field of vision happens to fall up a girls skirt for whatever random confluence of circumstantial events, He should get at least a 2 second "DAAYYYYAAAAMMMM" freebie. Sorry ladies, but that's the risk you run for wearing a skirt.

  • 0

    knucklerap

Why is his name in the "paper" for just being arrested? You'd think this "rag" would wait until he was convicted to save him the embarrassment. Now, even if he's found innocent, he's sure to be the laughingstock of his school.

There's not much to see, however, as the nymphs are all wearing staid gym trunks, right?

Isn't there a right to look anywhere we please, if we're in a public place?

What's the big deal with men in Japan liking to peep under skirts? Is there something about the underwear that turns them on? It seems to be a common occurrence and some of those YouTube videos where girls in Akihabara sing , wear short skirts, and kick while guys are on their knees with camera phones and camcorders taking shots at the underpants. She's aware and those kicks prove it especially when she positions herself just for the shot. It's crazy!

This is the most you will see about this story untill another guy gets caught for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't know from this story if he was just sitting at the bottom of the stairs just looking up or he was just the next guys walking up the stairs like most of do on a daily basis headed to work. I know i look up when i walk, so i am wrong if the school girl is infront of me showing her underwear? No, that's when i step out and up and get ahead, but then again there is another one.....even my wife says its getting out of hand.

OK, lets say he picked a strategic stop and craned his neck to see panties. That makes him a pervert, but is it criminal? That looks like an awfully slippery slope to me. What about all of us who take a look while going up the elevators as it offers itself? How do they want to define the difference?

And for good riddance, how many of us live on train lines where they have benches made at least 50 years ago. Low wooden benches. They're about as high up from the ground as a baseball catcher's squating position. And you know how many girls in skirts sit down on those benches every morning from 7-8:30 a.m. You don't have to see one on an escalator, just look out the window as you pass by these benches across the tracks. Where? O.K. Hatanodai on Tokyu Ikegami line for starters.

If you read the more detailed story at the Daily Yomiuri website it says that police had received an earlier report that someone had been coming to the station to peep up a girl's skirt. Then it says: The 34-year-old teacher allegedly was peering through a gap in a wind panel attached to the hand rail of the stairs...

I've been guilty of that a few times when I was 14 or 15. In those days the sight of a female knee cap was a real thrill.
