SDF airman arrested for robbing Ibaraki convenience store

IBARAKI —

A 20-year-old Air Self-Defense Force airman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of burglary, accused of robbing a convenience store in Ishioka City of more than 200,000 yen on Feb 10. Yuya Ogikubo, a leading airman at the Hyakuri Airbase in Omitama City, is accused of entering the Seicomart convenience store with two friends and threatening a male employee with a knife, taking 10,000 yen from the employee’s wallet and a further 210,000 yen from a store locker.

Police said the convenience store was robbed again on Feb 26 and a 19-year-old male was arrested. When he admitted to committing other robberies, Ogikubo’s name came to light. Police said Ogikubo attended a high school on a part-time basis and was classmates with the 19-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, all of whom have been arrested for the Feb 10 burglary.

Ogikubo has admitted to the burglary and told police he needed the money for living expenses and wanted some disposable income to enjoy a few things as well. A representative from the JASDF 7th Air Wing said they will decide in the near future what disciplinary action they will take.

I think SDF should be trained strictly.

I think the courts should decide what disciplinary action to take.

bobcatfish - I think the courts will deem a suspended sentence is enough.

He's 20 years old and he is attending high school part-time? There's your first clue that he's an idiot.

Difficult to understand. He's an "leading airman" (whatever that means), but he couldn't graduate high-school. He's supposed to have a pretty well paid job (I guess, usually military pays well), but he throws everything away by doing something really stupid. is he mentally competent?

Anyone whose parents are unwilling/unable to support them through high school is an idiot? (Hint - entering Japanese high school involves a hefty entrance fee far beyond the means of any normal 16-year-old.)

The first clue that he's an idiot is not that he was at least trying to get an education, but that he came up with the idea of burglary to pay his way.
