Mission - FAILURE. As for possessing the knife for no legitimate reason, seems he did have a reason, perhaps it was not a legitimately sharp knife and he lacked proper training in hara-kiri.
a knife with an around 20-centimeter blade with no legitimate reason.
Is this a big knife? I don't think so. Maybe he was looking for some watermelons to carve up. Besides, 'no legitimate reason'? He was going to kill himself with it! Time honored tradition!
Also, isn't there a big open gate in the front of the Parliament buildings through which people stroll and politicians are driven and tourists take snapshots of each other with two fingers aloft? I suppose technically they aren't supposed to be there but I didn't notice any cops running people away from it; although there were lots of cops milling around.
I can hardly see in this day and age a suicide being of any value. If the Japanese government (or any government for that matter) gave into the demands of each and every person who committed suicide where would it be?
And Fukuda will learn of this message think, "you know, if you can't trust a 20-year old who needlessly poked himself in the stomach a couple of dozen times in a failed suicide attempt, who can you trust? I'd better read it immediately."

Hang on...the law in Japan is very VERY clear...you CANNOT be arrested for trying to kill yourself!
presidentbaka at 04:46 AM JST - 14th May

Japanese authorities just proved themselves stupid here....by looking for any excuse!!
