He isn't so smart if he didn't use a tor blocker.

I guess he wasn't making a profit, so should be let go on those grounds just like the case with the prostitution ring a couple of weeks ago. Also considering that no one was being hurt physically by this.

    Caveman,

I completely agree. Make better movies that people want to see in theatres. When the good ones come out in theatre, I go and see them. When I've got free time I watch crap like 'Wanted'. I would never waste a dime on a flick like that... especially at the prices theatres charge here.

Winny? Winny? I do realise that there is a lot of Japanese content on Winny but why Japanese do not use Bittorrent is just mind-boggling.

File sharing has run away with the ball. Anybody can download anything they want, especially in Japan with the high speed broadband and unlimited downloads. It's time the internet providers and the music and film industries woke up to themselves and realized what a huge market they are missing out on by being stingy. All they have to do is, start collecting royalties as part of the internet connection fee and the world would be a much better place! - Time to go and buy another 1TB drive! The rest are all full!

"Winny? Winny? I do realise that there is a lot of Japanese content on Winny but why Japanese do not use Bittorrent is just mind-boggling."

    mind boggling...really?!!!

maybe something to do with focusing and promoting a service for Japanese.. might be no brainer.

Interesting to find the following info in p2p of which torrent is just one method.

Bit Torrent "There are two major differences between BitTorrent and many other peer-to-peer file-trading systems, which advocates suggest make it less useful to those sharing copyrighted material without authorization. First, BitTorrent itself does not offer a search facility to find files by name. A user must find the initial torrent file by other means, such as a web search. Second, BitTorrent makes no attempt to conceal the host ultimately responsible for facilitating the sharing: a person who wishes to make a file available must run a tracker on a specific host or hosts and distribute the tracker address(es) in the .torrent file. Because it is possible to operate a tracker on a server that is located in a jurisdiction where the copyright holder cannot take legal action, the protocol does offer some vulnerability that other protocols lack. It is far easier to request that the server's ISP shut down the site than it is to find and identify every user sharing a file on a peer-to-peer network. However, with the use of a distributed hash table (DHT), trackers are no longer required, though often used for client software that does not support DHT to connect to the stream."

Whinny "Winny (also known as WinNY) is a Japanese peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing program which claims to be loosely inspired by the design principles behind the Freenet network, which keep user identities untraceable" (!?)

  • PleasureGelf at 09:33 PM JST - 18th September

So he was wanted for 'Wanted'. How cool is that. Bear in mind he used mechanical translation for the subs. How uncool is that.
