Police in Tokyo have arrested a 41-year-old construction worker on suspicion of stealing over 10 million yen in cash and precious jewels.

According to police, Yoshio Sasahara broke into the apartment of a 35-year-old woman by climbing in through the window and stole 12 rings and other jewels valued at around ¥96,000 on March 28 in Edogawa Ward, TV Asahi reported Saturday.

Police quoted Sasahara as saying he needed money for living expenses and for leisure and that he has admitted to committing more than 100 burglaries in other wards of Tokyo, as well as Chiba Prefecture, since last September.

I love how all criminals in Japan always admits to a slew of other crimes, effectively incriminating themselves ad infinitum. And I bet nobody sees the weirdness in that. I bet more than the old phonebook is innthe interrogation room.

knox- I'd say there's three possibilities for the slew:

I'd imagine they found evidence of what he'd taken apr, or strong evidence of similar methods. Also for some criminals, bragging about their exploits is a big part of their thing.

Then there is the possibility that some or all crimes were a forced confession, the cops just wanted to clear a bunch of cold cases, a 41 year old construction worker is likely to be poorer, have less education, perhaps no family to help him, etc, and be a good target for the lazy cops.
