Skeletal remains found in Miyagi identified as missing 17-year-old girl

Police in Kurihara, Miyagi Prefecture, said Sunday that the skeletal remains found in some bushes behind an empty house on Sept 12 have been identified as those of a 17-year-old girl who went missing last December.

According to police, a DNA test identified the remains as Mayu Shiratori, who lived in Sendai City, Fuji TV reported. Her father asked police last December to locate her whereabouts as she had not been in contact with her family since leaving home some months earlier.

Police said the girl appeared to have died several months ago and that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The empty house belongs to a man who was an acquaintance of a man Shiratori was dating, police said.

The empty house belongs to a male acquaintance of Shiratori

I'm going to go out on a limb to say that this male "acquaintance" is prob more than twice her age and guilty as hell.

There is a little bit more to this story than contained in this article.

The article implies that she went missing in December when her father asked police to help locate her. However, according to other news reports, it appears that she left her family earlier in 2014 (I believe it was in the summer) and that she was going to be moving to the Kanto area. It appears that her family was not in regular contact with her but only contacted police when they couldn't get in touch with her/find her.

The only reason I mention this is that the timeline for her actually coming into harms way could have been well before December 2014. It also means that she was not living the life of a normal high schooler and was just suddenly abducted on her way home or something like that.

Why? Because he owns a house, or are you implying that males get murderous as they age?

and guilty as hell.

Well it doesn't look good for him, that's for sure. But here is something to consider: Just how stupid would one have to be to kill a person and hide the body in some bushes on their property? That would be so stupid it raises some serious questions and doubts.

@Peace Out: It has happened more than once, but guess you may have forgotten. Many stories have come out of folks buring their victims in their front yard or families yard to cover up the crime.

In regards to the implication of age, It seems to be perhaps because there have been many cases of older guy on younger child/teen violence. In any case it is good that these stupid people are getting caught. Too bad they are not punished accordingly on many occasions.

Hope she rests in peace.

Naw dude, I'm simply implying that it is common (in japan) for older men to pillow with high school girs. In case you didn't know, the girls are compensated in the form of cash or expensive gifts in return for the girls company.

On the other hand, japan has one of the highest prison population of senior citizen incarcerated.

Totally decomposed, says something more about the time she died.

Peace Out: "But here is something to consider: Just how stupid would one have to be to kill a person and hide the body in some bushes on their property? That would be so stupid it raises some serious questions and doubts."

And yesterday you were on here saying about a 26 year old who sexually assaults eight-year-old kids that we "shouldn't jump to conclusions" or "imagine too much or let fear get the best of us", and yet also saying American TV shows are responsible for filling our heads with lies about murder and other crimes (letting your imagination go EXTREMELY wild!).

Why is it you feel the need to almost jump to the defense of these thugs when they are Japanese, but suggest a fictional TV program if it's from the US is the cause of society's problems? I guess you miss the almost DAILY reports here of people going to police and admitting they have the body of a loved one in the freezer or storage space, of skeletons literally found in closets while people collect welfare benefits for those who are dead, and most importantly you forget the element of panic that humans experience in situations where they feel trapped or that they're going to be in big trouble for, ie. murder. You DID notice the guy is not living in the house at present, no? If he were still living there with the skeleton and was guilty THAT would be stupid (but again, we see it very often reported), but people not knowing what to do with a body would be quite natural, I would think. On the contrary, it is those who know very well what to do with a corpse to avoid suspicion are the abnormal people.

Another victim of a cowardly predator.

More common than you think maybe, another story on JT this very day...

@smithinjapan See? You have jumped to several conclusions right there, chief among them is that the owner of the house is a thug, Does that mean you think he killed her and hid the body in the bushes? It sure sounds like it.

Anyway, this is Japan today. Nearly all suspects and criminals are Japanese. But I did not defend anyone. Labeling someone as crazy is not a defense of a person, particularly when I suggest life in a mental ward.

And neither is entertaining other possibilities besides murder a defense at a time when murder has not been proven. It seems the difference between you and I is that I want to know what happened. You want there to be another murder.

I was wondering if she might have died of exposure in the bushes, having failed to break into the house, which she might have known was empty.

Even the dumbest criminals at least bury their murder victims. No, I am not saying its impossible he killed her and was so dumb as to just shove her in some bushes. Its possible. It just seems pretty unlikely. And his nationality has nothing to do with that conclusion.

I am simply waiting for more information before I decide some things. But I am sure I will never get enough information from a news site.

but suggest a fictional TV program if it's from the US is the cause of society's problems?

You really should have addressed me in the appropriate thread. I never said it was "THE" problem. I suggested it was "A" problem. There is a whole lot more wrong in any country than whatever is on TV, that is for sure.

Rest In Peace Mayu Shiratori... :-(

It says the owner is A friend of the man who was dating the young girl. So why would the owner be the murderer. More like the man who was dating the young girl is the murderer and very lazy

Peace out, you said "Just how stupid would one have to be to kill a person and hide the body in some bushes on their property? That would be so stupid it raises some serious questions and doubts." can i draw you attention to Mr Fred west, I think he buried 6-7 girls in his garden, including his own daughter!. One last thing, how can you undertake an autopsy on a skeletal remains, is this suggesting she is only partially decomposed? or is it a pile of bones? if its the latter, how can you undertake an autopsy on just bones?

@ Brian Wheway Does anyone here understand the difference between "buried" and "in some bushes behind an empty house"? Anybody? My God. I feel like I have stumbled into a Twilight Zone Episode. Does "dinosaur" mean "lunch" now?

Yes. Buried. Burying a person on your own property is a fair effort at covering your tracks. Shoving the body in some bushes on your own property or even someone's you know, isn't. Again. Bury. Its different from shoving in some bushes. If you have ever been outdoors.

I will also say that even though there is no footnote or time stamp, this article has been edited. (facepalm)

Naw dude, I'm simply implying that it is common (in japan) for older men to pillow with high school girs.

@Wc626 This is not about a date. Its about a death. I hope you are not implying that older men who date high school girls have a tendency to kill them. Seems to be where you are heading. You know I could just as easily say that men who marry tend to kill their wives. It would be equally true in the same way, which is to say, completely misleading and sensational.
