They likely thought he was on drugs. Though, you would think that after the urine test was negative they would not have been allowed to search.
The police searched his home in the afternoon, and at that time they knew the urine test was negative. Probably the police suspected other types of drugs that don't show traces in urine were involved, but the search time was just too short.
The way the police and media have approached this story is indefensible.
That someone from the police station where Kusanagi was being held notified the media is obvious.
That the officers transferring Kusanagi to a "more secure" location in order to parade Kusanagi in front of the media is blatantly obvious.
That the police raided Kusanagi's home with no just cause whatsoever is criminal to say the least.
That resident government asshat Kunio Hatoyama expressed "anger" at Kusanagi's actions, yet a scant month ago, was very vocal in support of a his colleague,
The way they tip of the media and let them take snaps is disgusting. A more secure location, ffs. You would think he was a member of Aum, for god's sake, not just a guy who just got so pissed he acted like a fool. And then you have the media reconstructing the events in the park, which is laughable. I am annoyed by the witnesses who have much to say but won't reveal their faces. Except for the foreigner, I guess he didn't care.
the neighbours heard a drunken korean voice and called the cops. they thought they had turned in a zainichi kankokujin. they were dismayed to learn it was one of their own. much worse, a member of their beloved smap ... ha ha ha. serves them right. their homes will be egged, TP'ed and burned unceremoniously. K.T.s that have been arrested thus far:
I am furious. I want to know, really know, why the police had to search his home to shed light on ‘‘his motive and the background’’ of the case. I beg your pardon? Because he got drunk and took his clothes off the police have the right to go through his things? Since they didn't find any drugs in his system (and even if they had), what gives them right (oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, I'm in Japan, where ultimately nobody has any rights) to go rifling through his things? "Police did not seize anything during their half-hour search at his home" -- how do we know? Because some stupid reporter is "telling us" -- was he/she there? Did he/she watch them? I bet. We'll never know. Who cares if he was drunk and took his clothes off? I saw a businessman at 3pm near Nakai station PEEING on the street. He whipped out his member and hosed down a wall. While children, teen girls, moms, working class folk, wandered by. Kusanagi was in some effing park at 2:00 a.m. Somebody heard him yelling? Who? Some perv who was wandering around bushes? Really, who gives a flying f? And so he is going to be "punished"? Hasn't having to force himself to pretend he actually has any interest in being in SMAP after 10 years punishment enough?
I would say that Nakagawa incident was more embarassing and worth investigation than Kusanagi case. When drunk Nakagawa showed up in the press conference, did the Japanese police/Government think for a while to search for his place to find out whether he was under influence from some kind of drugs or not?
Hey, this man is soooo busy.
He just had a nervous breakdown.
He wanted to be free, literally in his birthday suit.
It happens when you are on T.V. all the time. On shows all the time perfomring concerts all the time. Doing six movies or 8 drama shows all the time. Doing commericals all the time and stupid drama shows all the time. Being on stupid variety shows all the time.
The man needed time to him self and run around in his birthday suit
What the hell. How is a search of the home in any way justified? Police really have no restrictions here, do they? They can't catch real criminals unless they turn themselves in, but take any chance they can to tromp on others rights. ugh.
