neverknow2 - I noticed that too. Unless the story was trying to say that the substance found were different types of resins. That might be too complex for Kyodo news though.

Not to mention tobacco! Ah, but we wouldn't want a competitive product to match nicotine consumption, now, would we? Government monopoly, anyone?

anyway they raid the airmail with sniff dogs on the plane and any gaijin mail gets sniffed

Japanese sniffer dogs can distinguish foreign mail from letters home written by Japanese abroad? This is incredible. They are just as smart as the chimpanzees you have running the country.

I believe that these resins can be wrapped in plastic, then inserted in the middle of a peanut butter jar, and it should disable the dog's sniffing abilities. Just a belief from what I heard long time ago.

Wrong! The dog's noses are way more sensitive.

    • Why would this guy admit to smuggling drugs on two previous occasions? Not the sharpest tool in the shed, hey?
  • Spanishwoman at 12:44 PM JST - 23rd January

Either he is not very clever or he is too much dependent on the drug. I would have sent myself a good cheese anyway. I have like about 5 kilos of different cheeses in my fridge, maybe worth altogether half a million yen, but I will NOT smuggle them :) His name is not correctly written. He must be Alfonso Cabrera Gonzalez de Candamo, which sounds a little bit aristocratic by the way.

He must be watching this on TV show, or he has good friends that were setting him up to do job for them and become a 'mule.' This student is an idiot and should be sent back to Spain with Japanese flag holding in his hands right through the terminal in Airport.

Lay off the sniffer dogs, they are just doing their jobs. Just out of interest, wonder what sort of dogs they are using. Probably beagles or labradors.

So this hombre got his amigos to send him some MJ with his tapas, huh?

  • Naruki_Oni at 04:02 PM JST - 23rd January

Decriminalize marijuana already. Christ on a pointy stick.

  • JapanHusker at 04:59 PM JST - 23rd January

Don't break the law. The devil on a pointier one.

  • TokyoXtreme at 06:24 PM JST - 23rd January

Rescind the American-made marijuana law, and then Japan is happy. It's funny how Japanese law is insanely more strict than current American law, considering it's the Americans who made the against marijuana in the first place (1945). The average Japanese must believe pot is right up there with heroin and cocaine speedballs.

Why would anyone try to smuggle hash international, buggles the mind. I could only imagine the thought process; Exams coming up, need to smoke up, but bud is to big and easy for drug dogs to smell, so I'll ask my friends to send me weed concentrate. That way the dogs won't be able to smell it, and I can save money on shipping with a smaller package. He should just took up a collection in his dorm for the left over plant parts and made it himself.

Every time I get something in the mail from the States customs goes through it and then tape it back up with their customs tape. At first I thought it was just a one in a million chance of having my parcels searched, but I have come to realize that this happens to me every time, which is at least once a month. At least in the States when the Homeland security goes through my packages they at least have the common courtesy to offer a little note with an explanation.
