yeah, these two countries are at the top not because of bribery but because they are undemocratic.

This has to be wrong, INDIA is no where in this bribe article so from what I hear from my Indian friends, in India you can bribe for almost anything and everything!

Oh, sorry, I forget to mention that Russia also docked its spacecraft to the International space lab yesterday. Very interesting.

davidake, Can you explain what Chinese and Russian spacecraft have to do with the issue of bribes? Do you have to bribe gravity for it to let you off the Earth? And for you information, Japan also docked with the international space station. The first time was quite a few years ago. So, they are probably not all that excited.

The whole space station was constructed with bribes.

knowitall, did you say that japan docked to IS lab? Are you kidiing? Every media said that China is the third country to do it after USSR and USA. How come japan has done it? In your dream? Japan has not done it indipendently for spacecraft docking. It was from USA's help (always in this way, even your own security). Why I comment bribe issue with spacecraft docking? Because I think japanese media is biased and only report bad things about China and Russia. I want you guys to know that there are planty possitive things happening in China and Russia. It is good to attract somebody's attention in this forum to know the good new from China and Russia. Objective achieved, great.

I'm sure Japan is bribing a lot as well, probably makes them look better than they are think of for example Ozawa.

Sorry, daviddrake, but I am not kidding. Japan's H-II Transfer Vehicle first docked with the ISS in 2009. Shenzhou-8 docked with China's own test lab, not the ISS. By the way, this is an Associated Press article originating in Berlin (that is in Germany). Sure nice things happen in China, like running over little kids and everybody ignoring it! I liked traveling in far east Russia, but the bribes asked left and right by authorities was annoying.

It's not really news - bribing can happen anywhere (we all know Japan is not that far anyway). India is one of the leaders, think Turkey and East Europe countries, and of course Africa...
david - nobody is really excited about China's progress in space. From past experience, this can't lead to something good for the rest of the world. More likely the chinese will be the first to fully arm their space ships and make sue they can drop nasty things on countries that disagree with them.

It's hard to stop it, isn't it? It's an age old business tactic. Who said business should be fair?
They say those who are fair in business are quickly out of business. Unfortunately when they came up with that idea they were still far away from the digital age.

ALL governments and major businesses lie and conceal things from the public. They all abuse the power. Which is why I think the award winning Wikileaks documentary should be shown to all adults and school children.

@davidake, this article is not made by Japanese media, if you can read, maybe you should pay attention to the very beginning of the article "BERLIN — Transparency International says"

While I agree that it is likely the Russians, Chinese and Mexicans are bribing left, right and centre - does anyone actually believe that British and Aussie companies are more likely to bribe than Japanese? With the exception of one allegation I can recall against BHP-Billiton....give me a break!

I find the Corruption Perceptions Index far more thorough and credible when talking about bribery and corruption on an international scale. Admittedly, it is dealing not only with companies but governments. Check it out: http://www.transparency.org/policy_research/surveys_indices/cpi/2010/results

Corruption is everywhere, it’s in the south, the north, east and west and the public and private sectors. So the question is: how do you cut through and make real change. Besides companies using bribes, petty corruption is everywhere every day, visible for everyone. In most developing countries, if your wife is going to give birth to a child, and you want both of them to survive, drop something extra for the head of the clinic. You broke some traffic rule, drop something extra in cash in the policeman's car, and he will let you go. You need an urgent visa for a family member, refer to the mostly underpaid people in the ministries, who know how to solve the problem, even within a day. Money talks.
