If somebody said to me "why don't you take this suitcase to Japan in exchange for a large sum of money?", I would be suspicious to say the least.
Did the woman say she packed the bag herself when checking it in? If she said "no", the bag should have been searched in Malaysia. If she said "yes", then she was lying.
She is lucky to have only spent a year and a half in jail.
someone says please take my bag for me - you're stupid
someone says please take my bag for me and here's lots of money to do so - you're guilty, enjoy prison
Indeed, I am still amazed at how she got off. They don't mess around in places like Southeast asia for things like these. What I'm thinking is that she knew she'd have her cheerleaders who'd automatically presume her innocence because the Japanese judicial systems are so corrupt, racist, and ineffective. Luckily for her she was cleared by the courts, certainly in my opinion a wrong decision.
She's either a) incredibly beautiful and talented in the bedroom; b) has powerfully connected in Switzerland with people who in turn have exerted influence on certain Japanese parties; or c) good at manipulating men into feeling sorry for her with her doe-like expression.
On the face of it, she should be doing the same kind of stretch that Nick Baker is doing. So what gives? Fishier than Tsukiji market on a hot summer's day...

Another one gets off scot free with the old "I don't know what was in my belongings" schtick. Who says Japanese officials are 'unfair.'

The unfair thing is that she was still detained after being cleared. Gaijin are guilty until proven guilty

Innocent until proven foreign!

nice lawyer! this story stinks. she is guilty as sin and she knows it. on the other hand, there is nothing wrong with a few happy pills
