Taiwan wants explanation of murder suspect's suicide while in custody.

"requested through a diplomatic channel that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police report on the “truth”

You want the truth? The POS knew he was going to burn for this and took his own life. And yes, the Japanese police need a little tweaking in other areas, besides bicycle checking and speed traps.

I don't blame Taiwan for wanting to know how he killed himself. I'd like to know how the keystones failed again, this time.

Another black eye for the keystones of Japan! I assume it was a frontal handcuff if any at all. Luckily he did not choose to take a keystone with him. Japan it’s time to change procedures with murder suspects. Reminds me of the time when the cops came up on two guys fighting in the street and the cops grabbed the guy on top (a lawyer) and allowed the other guy (bad guy) to go free. As the cops held the lawyer down the bad guy regained his knife and kill the lawyer.

It certainly does sound fishy. They know they are arresting a knife murder suspect yet they fail to find a 21cm knife on his person in a patdown. He's handcuffed in the back of a police car yet somehow he gets out this huge knife and slashes his own neck and nobody could stop him.

It reminds me of the guy who "committed suicide" in immigration detention a few years back by rushing past 3-4 officers, grabbing a hot-pot and drinking boiling water.

No hand cuffs? No pat down for a weapon?

Pretty shocking. A 21cm knife is hard to miss.

Sigh... I try to support Japanese police, but this is absolutely unexcusable. You never, ever, cuff someone in the front, unless using waist chains (watch the beginning to No Country For Old Men...) A bad pat down, improper cuffing, and this is the result. Lucky for the officers that the guy took his own life, not more.

It`s not fishy, just bad police work.

The news reports on tv said police had checked him for weapons but didn't check well enough (and they admit a big mistake) as he had been hiding the knife in his crotch area.

These idiot J cops would not last a week back in California!! 21 cm knife?? What the hell did the cops forget?? A full body search??

Is it physically possible to hide a 10 inch knife in your crotch area and then sit down in a police car? Maybe the real cause of death is he cut his little buddy off while trying to sit down.

This incident shows what the J-cops are lacking: knowledge in real police work.

How can they claim to have initially searched a suspect, but was able to produce a 21-centimeter knife at the back seat of a police car?

    1) Was the suspect really patted down, or was his pockets the only ones checked?

    2) Wasn't the suspect cuffed? Producing a weapon and slashing oneself would be quite a feat if the suspect was handcuffed.

    3) What were the police escorts looking at while they were riding in the police car? Shouldn't they be watching the suspect for any suspicious moves he makes, like producing a knife?

    4) Didn't they have a metal scanning wand? If the J-cops don't like the idea of patting down suspects, the scanner would be a great tool.

This sounds more like a revenge murder/cover up.... Perhaps the police looked the other way and called it a suicide???

reckless, a 21cm knife is 8 inches, not 10. If you look at pictures of such a knife, about half the length is the handle, which leaves you a 4 inch blade. Still, the police shouldn't have missed it. They should hire TSA officers to do the pat-downs from now on.

He probably casted a "bound weapon" spell to produce the knife.

    Reckless

maybe he hid it in the rear orifice.

Has anyone from the police stated that he was handcuffed? He walked in. They said "This time we're not going to fall for that old "I'm the bloody suspect and I'm going to fool you by confessing I'm the bloody suspect" gag that the bloke from Aum pulled. We're not going to send you down the street. We're going to arrest you, by Jove." And they put him in the car with no frisking and no handcuffs because he seemed like a reasonable bloke for a murder suspect.

At least they got their man! He's dead. I'm sleeping fine tonight.
