This is very, very sad! Tottori? There is nothing in Tottori except Japan only claim to a so called desert, with imported camels. Who would go all the way to Tottori and kill a taxi driver with a hang gun? Let me guess, some idiot from Osaka? Kyoto? I do not think it would be another fellow Tottorian. Too small and quiet of a place in Japan. RIP dead taxi driver.

you may be surprised..I was in Tottori city (in the nightlife area) looking for an onsen and a place to eat and there was a large number of obviously yakuza-affiliated gimps congregating outside a bar..as I walked past they were discussing guns..'where is the gun?' and 'Who has the gun?'...sometimes not understanding Japanese can be a blessing.I couldn't believe my ears.

I thought or was always told that only yaks or keystones have guns in j-land. Therefore it must have been perpetrated by yaks or yak subsidiaries ,according to JN post war history, or as the article seems to imply that non yak criminals have access to guns now? And if the perp is caught, lets see how much jail time the perp gets if Jn.

This is not the first time that something like that happened to a taxi driver. It has indeed become a dangerous job and I think they should first of all put protective shields in the taxis and allow drivers to have something for self defense. RIP

So, that's at least a dozen attacks on taxi drivers in the last six months. We definitely don't want to see taxi drivers carrying weapons for self defense. If you carry a weapon you must be prepared to have that weapon used against you. Sadly, it is about time for the Japan taxi association to step out of the 70's and start protecting their drivers with protective enclosures. Most of the taxis in Sydney are cashless using the ATM networks or a prepaid Cabcharge card. Surely the SUICA system (or similar) could be easily adjusted and adopted to keep the cabbies cash free. I hope the cops find the gunman before he strikes again.

This is sad. Japanese taxi drivers are some of the nicest in the world. They also tend to be in their 50s and 60s. RIP sir. I think a similar murder happened in Osaka a couple of months ago.

Tamesu wrote "I thought or was always told that only yaks or keystones have guns in j-land. Therefore it must have been perpetrated by yaks or yak subsidiaries"... or the cops. Is that soooooo outrageous of a claim? There was a dirty cop in Osaka who was breaking and entering into establishments on his off hours. If you know how the system works, then you know how to avoid getting caught. If you ARE part of the system, well then hell, you don't have a worry in the world. Perhaps whoever committed this crime will get the opportunity to investigate himself.

This is very unfortunate, but Japan still has the 6th lowest crime rate in the world. I hope these hard times don't change that.

if someone wants money, taxi drivers are NOT the ones who has lots of money usually.. i guess someone was trying to get some quick cash, I feel terribly sorry for the driver. there've been too many incidences where people kill others for just a little bit of money, not billions of yen.. i don't get it.. (sigh).
