I don't care how stupid you are, killing is a crime and everyone knows that even stupid or mentally deficient people. He deserves to be run over by a train.

I am so paranoid about being pushed into the tracks, that I literally stand against the wall or stay away from anyone close to me. You just never know who is gonna snap.

  • tmarie at 12:41 PM JST - 4th October

I agree with that. I had a crazy guy flip out on me last week and no one did anything to stop him. I was standing behind the yellow line and he told me to move further behind it. I ignored him and he lost it - started screaming and wigging out. I moved away but he continued to wail and scream. Folks like that belong in the crazy house, certainly not out in public alone.

He is 18 and he should face the music as an adult. Suffering from possible influence from the disorder on his liability is a 'mucho' from his lawyer. If he is suffering any mental disorder than lock him up into Institution and don't waste money in court. Public will be safer from such people like this offender. There is a choice; ‘Jail or Institution.’

"pervasive developmental disorder " - excuse #452. It seems like any kind of crime and/or anti-social behaviour these days gets excused with a "disorder." How about this being done by just a nasty, angry kid who knew exactly what he was doing.

  • keshii at 07:37 PM JST - 4th October

So the guy's a government official, huh? Do you think the kid knew it at the time? Just curious.

Have any of you who are going on about the lack of mental health support actually dealt with mental health issues in Japan? Believe me, psychiatrists and mental health treatment in Japan is so much better than my home country (Australia). The support IS there if people need it. Hhigh school teachers need to stop belting kids around the chops and parents need to stop apologising for their kids instead of making them take responsibility for their actions. All it takes is a parent or teacher to say 'Hey, this kid is messed up, maybe he/she needs to see a professional'.

Stories like me make me paranoid about train stations.

yeah, lunchtime at shinjuku station any day of the week eh

There are many treatments in Japan, but it requires strict law to evaluate the levels of disorder. I wish this 18 years boy could have received a proper assistance when he got out in public. I think he is able to face the trial but there is no consequence...It is sad.

Lesson to learn: do not stand to close to the edge of the platform, you'll never know who's the wacko behind you.

  • hrwitt13 at 09:35 AM JST - 5th October

Yeah, so my brother has that condition too. Know the worst he's ever done? Thrown a radish at me. That disorder is no excuse for killing someone.

  • cuddles20008 at 07:42 PM JST - 5th October

Hmmmm are you telling me his parents never in the last 18 years notice thathe had this pervasive developmental disorder, Or do you siddenlt get it after pushing someone in front of a train killing them.

    cuddles

  • Molenir at 02:50 AM JST - 6th October

I suspect the latter. It was only discovered after he murdered someone. If he hadn't, he would have gone undiagnosed his entire life.
