Tochigi school teacher facing disciplinary action for use of illegal drugs

A 54-year-old public elementary school teacher is facing disciplinary action from the Tochigi Prefectural Board of Education after it was discovered that he had been using illegal drugs.

According to members of the board, the teacher was caught using the drug "rush" in May of this year, Sankei Shimbun reported. "Rush" is one of the so-called “dangerous drugs” — the term given to quasi-legal hallucinogenic herbs.

Police began an investigation at the school in June. The teacher was quoted as saying he wanted to feel better than he did normally, and that he had been using the drug since 2010.

That's right, set an example for your students. Just glad he was caught, and didn't hurt anybody.

I'm a little confused. The headline says use of 'illegal' drugs, but the story says that the drug was a "quasi-legal" hallucinogenic.

I believe 'Rush' has been illegal in Japan for a number of years. I vaguely remember reading about it 4-5 years ago. I don't think it's a 'herb' though, it's some sort of chemical you sniff.

That's really weird! The drug 'Rush' is illegal in Japan, button can buy whiteboard makers with the same active chemicals as the drug. This teacher should have just been sniffing pens and he would still have his job. Others countries banned emilnitrate in marker pens half a century ago.

Rush I believe is old VHS tape cleaner, it's semi legal, they can't ban it because it's used to clean tapes. Not sure where the police draw the line on it.

Why go to all the trouble? Just go to the combini and buy your drugs in a can or bottle.

rush can be bought in most hunting/trapping stores. Anywhere where you would purchase cyanide for pest control. It's kind of important to have access to it.

Did it affect his/her job? If not, then he/she shouldn't have been fired. A little more detail might help towards forming an opinion about this. The editor might hold some of these stories until they can provide a little more information.

God, who writes this sh*t? Sounds like they used an iPhone fart app to translate it.

Satsu, leave the teacher alone. all this is is another brick in the wall.

what someone does in her or his own past time is up to them, so long as it does NOT interfere/bring the school into disrepute/effect the students, the school should not get involved. IF it illegal that should be down to the cops to investigate and bring any potential charges.

He has been using for 5 year. There is mention that his work efficiency over the last 5 years had diminish. No He used outside of work and was reported to the education department. So it had not been his performance but it has been his after work recreation activity is why he is facing disciplinary action. If one actually enquired into his work performance, it would not surprise me if he was in the top 10% of teachers. 54 years old he was going stale and need a lift. How many professional are on legal med in the work force. This is not news worthy the poor teacher has been a important part of the workforce and society for the most of his working life and he pull publicly in front of the education community and allowed to be totally embarrass. SHAME

Compared to what we read about some other teachers getting up to or doing, this doesn't rate in my book. if he were an alcoholic he would likely still be teaching.

Glad they got to him before he started acting up in class. f you can't cope with life without using drugs then grow a pair and cope like the rest of us do. Drugs are for the weak.

He should have rather settled for hitting the booze at his home to get a decent rush and high. Moreover, we've been given a green light to drink sake after all. Only if he's not a lightweight, though...

@Wakarimasen... I don't drink. I'll stick to tea to lift my spirits if I'm down... or go for a walk, read a book, watch TV, a favourite DVD... certainly won't jump into a bottle, smoke a weed or inject filth into my veins. This teacher is just weak.

Best to follow the rules.
