The Tokyo Customs department on Wednesday said it plans to tighten its inspection procedures for illegal drugs as the number of travelers and packages is expected to increase for the Christmas-New Year period.
Customs officials held a formal ceremony on Wednesday, showing the media drug-sniffing dogs and new X-ray machines, TBS reported.
According to police and customs officials, 250 kilograms of illegal drugs have been seized by Tokyo authorities for the 10 months to Oct 31 this year.

Can it really be true that people try and bring drugs in thru airports and the like? were the 250 kg's seized at the airport.

Again with a short campaign rather then a diligent focus on what they are paid for? 250kg that's less than 00.5 per employee including dogs. It's a shocking fact that they are diligent for one month.

Ha ha! Only 250kg seized? I'll bet at least five times that much has got through! Their on again off again search and seizure campaigns are well known and the drug runners know it. It's no different to the drink driving campaigns they run. Yeah, mths penalties may be high, but the risks are minimal due the the authorities being predictable.

Good keep that useless garbage out of Japan.

As Kuribo says above ... Good. Why not spread the all-out search to other international airports throughout Japan. And while the Customs officials are at it ... keep an eye out for the "mules," especally the innocent-looking little old ladies.
