Well, now that Noriko Sakai has admitted to taking "stimulants," the stigma connected to drug use will be lifted soon. Just as divorce has become more accepted in Japanese society it will be okay for young Japanese girls to engage in drug use.

I hope my prediction is wrong, but I think I'll patent my design for a kitty-chan shaped crack pipe just in case!

Etertainment industry in this country is certainly interesting.Amazing how news of NoriPs brothers arrest for drugs was kept quiet till now.Was he done just for possession or for peddling? Some Japanese friends last night were shocked how much I knew about this.I have no TV or newspapers so get it all from you guys.keep it coming!

About the "My wife took drugs" quote, just point out that in Japan police interrogations are not recorded in full, and that the police oppose such recordings on the grounds basically that if they record the interrogations they won't be able to make stuff up. Even if he actually made the statement and it was recorded, there is no way to check what happened before the statement and whether he was forced into making it to justify the search. Or alternately, they may have just made it up. No way of knowing.

    @disillusioned,

It is simple you have a family, career and a successful life. Why ruin that by breaking the law?

Your friend was not very smart. They broke the law and they got punished. If you don't like the law then leave the country or try to change them in a productive way. You don't break them because you don't like it. If I believed it was OK to kill people so out defiance should I kill other people? Don't get upset because they didn't get suspended sentence. That is also another issue.

If she broke the law thus she should be punished. How severely will be decided by the court.

She made her bed now she should lie in it!

The drug laws in this country are problematic for a number of reasons. The laws on psychotropics are different from the laws on the-drug-of choice; metamphetamines and stimulants. What is clear is that narcs here are very determined to make a dent on the problem. All have degrees in pharmacology and most cruise around in mufti. So much so, one would easily mistake a few as drug taking bums...

I once taught English to narcs here, so I know quite a bit about how the operate. Believe me, they're not studying English, Chinese and Portuguese for holidays and if arrested, one will pull out a small kit bag and do an on the spot analysis of whatever it is you're holding in your now very sweaty hands.

Best to be avoided as there are more cruising around than you think and sometimes they pretend to be couples.

@nutsagain Thanks for teaching them English mate. That was a really good idea!

I wasn't aware that Noriko has admitted to using drugs. She turned herself in on advice of her lawyer as the police issued a warrant for questioning. AFAIK she is a suspect and nothing more than that. So stop passing your judgments.

Look at the "paragraphé du fermeture". Her career started right before the hensei era. But now it pulled off the plug because of THAT!

  • sf2k at 10:35 AM JST - 10th August

anyone know if she's expected to go to jail over this? At most, all this could generate is a fine, catch and release..but jail? What if you did a urine test on sport athletes in Japan? Would half of them go to jail too? This is increasingly looking to be insane overzealousness on the police vs entertainment again.

Can we speculate on whether this (in my opinion) perfect specimen of a woman has always been wild and has never been allowed to be wild and that the drugs let her be her real self??? It's gotta be difficult to live a life of such barriers.

You are so naive, guys. She was a wild child, but being a cuetsy mootsy thingy on TV pays better, can ny more alcohol and drugs, so she played that one. People who know her before she became famous say her role and her younger self doesn't really overlap. She is just another ex-biker turned to Milli Vanilli personality from the idol factories.

  • SebastianFlyte at 02:35 PM JST - 11th August

This story is not news worthy.

  • WilliB at 12:26 AM JST - 13th August

It is ridiculous how this non-story floods the news here. Another celebrity caught with a few grams of amphetamines.... hod the press, stop the earth rotation! Nothing else matters any more.

If there is anything that turns me off in this county, it is the idiotic local media.
