The torso and leg bones of a 19-year-old college student have been found at a mountain in Hiroshima Prefecture, near where her head was found earlier, police said Monday.

Police have also detected a surface imprint on the neck of Miyako Hiraoka, a first-year student at the University of Shimane in Hamada, Shimane Prefecture, prompting them to believe she may have been strangled and her head cut off with a knife, investigative sources said.

The joint investigation squad of Shimane and Hiroshima prefectural police is investigating the cause of her death through an autopsy, while seeking other parts of her body, they said.

The squad is questioning local people as to whether they saw a suspicious vehicle on National Route 186, which connects Hiroshima and Hamada, as it believes her body parts were carried in a vehicle after her death because no bloodstains have been found near the site.

The investigators are also asking Hiraoka’s friends whether she had been involved in any trouble.

An autopsy conducted on her head has found that Hiraoka was killed within five days of going missing after finishing her part-time job at an ice cream store on the evening of Oct 26, and has confirmed signs of blows to the face. But it failed to specify the cause of her death.

The Japanese news is reporting that it was a leg bone that was found, god knows what happened to the flesh.

I just can't imagine the perp being someone she knew...she was just an average student who lived in a dorm and worked at an icecream shop, for crying out loud...

Oh my god, this gets more sickening every time something new comes out. Now it wasn't just her head chopped off (as if that wasn't bad enough,) but she was completely mutilated, hopefully after death. I feel desperately sorry for her parents, having to come to terms with such atrocities, but I hope most sincerely that she didn't have time to suffer.

I too wonder about Ichihashi. Was she carrying money by any chance? If not, probably someone else. What about that creep who cannibalised a European girl and became a J-tv tarento? Can he account for his whereabouts? (If he's still alive that is.) But I hope she wasn't cannibalised, because that'd just be another nail in the coffin of her parents' misery and suffering. How can they live with such terrible knowledge?

$20 bucks this is a crime of passion involving someone she meet through work. Some guy who is upset he doesn't have girlfriend. They decide to take their frustrations out on her; the classic manga book style is the man just rapes a woman and she starts to get turned on by it. Unfortunately, that is almost never true then they realize they have to silence her. Now they've killed the woman, next they have make sure no one finds her, so they must get rid of the body. It is too diffiuclt to move a whole body so they chop her up. Now they have to dispose of her and the choose the farthest place possible without looking suspicious for being out there. This whole situation is bad! It also says alot about abuse towards women/girls in this country where the majority of perpetrators are lonely men. I hope they catch the person or persons then fry their a@#!

Probably a customer or someone who has seen her going home from work in the evenings. Check the neighborhood.

Body parts are evidence. Some of the best forensic evidence leading to the arrest of the killer are found on the body of victims.

I can't even begin to speculate what the motive behind this kind of violence could be, but I would love nothing more than a few private moments in a locked room with the savage who did this. Me, him, and an 18" length of steel pipe.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Violence begets violence and it won't bring her back. But it sure will help me come to better grips with such an unconscionable crime.

Last night's news reported that there are three males traveling together in the area who are subjects of interest; Two in their 30s and one in his 20s. I'm not sure why the police have reason to believe they were involved, but they're actively searching for them.
