A small truck drove into a store that sells used brand-name goods in Yokohama in what police believe was an attempt to rob the store, police said Saturday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 5 a.m. Friday. Security footage from the store shows the truck smashing through the glass window at the front, and then driving into the center of the shop, NTV reported.
By the time police arrived, the driver of the truck had abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police say that no one was injured and that none of the merchandise was stolen or damaged.
Witnesses claim to have seen several men running away from the scene of the crime.

Wow, UK style crime. Hope it isn't copied or taken up by others.

Thanks for the link Sensato, so it looks like a bungled burglary i guess.

I am also willing to bet that the driver will claim he was drunk and crashed his truck despite his real intentions.

Just because it was in Yokohama, doesn't mean it was in Chinatown.

Ah, come one, guys... they weren't drunk! They meant to drive up and rob the place, but just as they approached the driver mistook the break for the gas pedal and they rammed through the front of the store! :)

So they successfully smashed in, but fled immediately stealing nothing?
Was it a test run?

The truck owner will get caught if license plate was on the truck. Only excuse of I was drunk may work for driver but do not work for other passengers. Robbery definitely. They will get caught. It does not matter they failed to rob. Any excuse or what merchandise were do not matter. Remind you, In Japan, Guilty until proven innocent. Group like this, one of them becomes a snitch.
