Two killed as man intervenes in father-son quarrel
SAGA —
Police on Monday arrested a man in his 40s over the murder of his father and another man at his home in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture.
According to police, the accused, who has been identified as Akihiro Furukawa, was fighting with his father Katsuhiro Furukawa, 72, when electronic goods store manager Shigeaki Tateishi, 65, attempted to intervene. Furukawa’s father was found in the first floor bedroom of his home at around 5 p.m., while Tateishi was discovered lying on the road outside. Both were bleeding from stab wounds to their abdomens. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead a short time later.
Police say Furukawa has confessed to the crime. Although Furukawa has been charged with Tateishi’s murder, police say they are still investigating his connection to his father’s death.

This happened in Saga Prefecture the northwest part of the island of Kyūshū, Japan? (a region famous for producing ceramics and porcelain) ..... a double murder.....stemming from a family quarrel...sad...

Famous for more than ceramics now. Japan is truly more dangerous in ones own home than the streets.

All I need now is for someone to say he did not intend to kill the men, he just wanted them to be quiet!

How many does this make? There seems to be a trend of these kinds of killings...and sometimes it's the ojiisan father who kills the son. Wonder if the man in his 40s was living at home with his father..

I bet this has something to do with the whole switch over to digital broadcasting. The son- accursed shut in loser that he was- probably tried to use his father's money to buy a new TV. Then when the father refused and the electonic appliance store manager came to collect, the killings started!

Chewitup, he could easily be charged with 2nd degree murder. Do you not understand the difference between it and 1st degree?

tmarie, I understand the difference and I understand that intent is actually impossible to prove. Even if someone "confesses" there is a chance he is lying.

Another broken family and more tragic deaths. Where was the mother? was she there for him when he was a boy? More and more families are breaking down due to modern society and trendy and fashionable ideas. The family started collapsing with new fangled ideas in the 60's, this is why we are starting to se more murders by people of this mans age.
Is this the kind of world we want to live in?

very strange to lay blame for this tragedy on "modern society", without even proposing any alternatives to modern society.
you prefer feudalistic society, i gather.
modern society is based on democracy and a free-market economy, with the family being an essential unit, but it is breaking down more because of unemployment than anything else.
the comments about "trendy and fashionable ideas", as if some abstract factor being the cause as opposed to something concrete, like stable employment and a stable economic scenario is far more likely to have played a role, and that has been a trend in japan for some time now, as seen in the high suicide rates, etc.
i would agree that family cohesion is an important part of societal cohesion, but fail to see the reasoning behind your blaming "modern society" on the disintegration of the family. maybe you should talk about consumerism and the mass media, entertainment, etc., as providing a hollowed out context in which families could interact in practices that served to bring people together instead of keeping them apart.

ubikwit; The main downfall is urging and almost forcing women away from their natural work of child rearing and caring.making women think they have to abandon their families for the "right" to work and but products. The mother should be at home caring for all whilst teh father should ebe working as muh as is needed to provide financially. When this family unit is removed we see chaos and more crimes such as this. Overflowing prisons and more drug use. It is very sad that responsibilities to our families are not our main priority now.
Be prepared for many more crimes and the worlds prison population to increase more year on year, terribly sad.

@Steve: you really believe the mother should be in the home, and the dad working? Where do you get off saying that? This article said nothing about the family. Possibly mom passed away, or was out shopping or working? Perhaps doing volunteer work up North? What about you? You are off topic. Sorry

Have got to agree with Legs.
And got a question for Steve, what is the fathers role in raising kids?
Just the bread-winner, sounds like your average Japanese family that gets slammed so much because the father is never home to help the mother, etc.
We often hear that both father and mother are needed as role-models for the kids.

Most people believe in free speech... until someone says something they don't like.
Then they start to cry about "trolls" and so on.
