Two men robbed a discount store of 1.2 million yen in Fussa, Tokyo, police said Sunday.

According to police, the robbery occurred at around 11 p.m. Saturday night just after the store had closed. Fuji TV reported that the two men entered the Jason discount store and threatened two employees with a knife and stun gun. They ordered one of the employees to empty the cash register and office safe. They then bound the two employees' wrists and fled.

Police said they are examining store surveillance camera footage to try and identify the robbers.

Not one to normally speculate, but one has to imagine that this was an inside job. Or at least involved someone with knowledge of the store's operations and cash handling procedures. Potentially a current or former employee.

"just after THE STORE HAD CLOSED... two men entered"

And the employees just let them in? Did they know them?

Well, these robbers are idiots. There are old folk with 45m in cash in their homes, with little security, no cameras etc. AWAY on their new year jollies.

Inside job?

It doesn't take a criminal genius to figure out most stores have a bunch of cash on hand at the end of the business day. Hours are posted on the door.

Some busy shops in the US have the manager take the money to the bank almost hourly or at least more than once a business day thereby limiting loss in case of robbery. This is not so true in safety Japan - once at the end of closing for most businesses, I suspect. Although one shop I worked for left the money in the store overnight for the day manager to deposit.

So how did the TWO ROBBERS get INSIDE the store?
