Two teenage girls arrested for beating another girl at station in Yokohama

KANAGAWA —

Police on Tuesday arrested two teenage girls for allegedly beating another teenage girl near the gate at Tsunashima Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line in Yokohama. According to police investigations, the two teenage girls, aged 16 and 18, were arrested for beating another 16-year-old girl on the head and face as well as burning her right arm with cigarette butts at the station for 35 minutes from 7 p.m. on Aug 25.

Police said while many commuters and station staff were at the station at the time of the incident, no one intervened.

The two teenage girls arrested were quoted by police as saying, “She was always showing off on her blog, which irritated us.” According to police, the three were friends.

I wish someone would have intervened. It doesn't take much: a station employee, a call to the cops. I saw two men kicking a man curled up on the street and I just yelled at them. They looked at me and walked away. Sometimes it might just take a yell or two to get them to stop. I was fully prepared to run, however. I'm not as stupid as I look. I hope.

How did they know she was beaten form 35 minutes, was it taped ?

What exactly goes through somebody's mind when they walk by and see two people beating another person, and they decide that the BEST course of action would be to NOT call the police or tell anybody. Surely people in Japan aren't THAT cowardly, are they? How much trouble would it be to simply walk OUTSIDE, where they can't see you, and then call the cops?

What does go through another's mind while observing this sort of subhuman species? Rage, that's what. Once saw a group of school hooligans bullying a meek kid on a train once and was thoroughly frustrated because in those days couldn't make myself understood in Japanese very well. The bullies loved the attention and played it up for my benefit forcing the kid to sit down, couple of slaps upside the head and standing right in his face while he meekly handed over a ten thousand yen note and was told to show more 'respect' at the next meeting. Yeah, what goes through one's mind indeed...

these girls of violence need punishment and eduction. Send them to reform prison, shave their heads, make them learn to respect others.

They must be shown that this behaviour will not be tolerated in society.

I wonder if the girl fought back at all. I mean getting hit is not fun and the natural reaction is to defend ones self. I hope she was not just a punching bag for these two b$%#hes.

In that kind of situation, I would simply walk in and peacefully take the victim with me without even raising the voice. I highly doubt the two girls would try to interfere.

I hope this news is made public, like on the tv news, and that the 2 offenders get a good beating in public, like they do over in Singapore!

.” According to police, the three were friends"

With friends like these, who needs enemies...

The 2 girls who did this crime should be publicly caned, like in Singapore, and made an example of.

Typical Japanese cowardice to just stand by and watch as it happens!

After Densha Otoko aired one of the Japanese quiz shows did a segment on just how many nerds (Otaku) would get involved in a situation where a drunken salaryman was harassing a pretty girl. The show found that almost 70% of the time the Otaku would get involved and "save" the pretty girl.

My gut feeling is either people have a perverse pleasure of watching the cat fight, or the girls weren't attractive and people didn't want to be around them.

This goes a lot further than the usual bullying. I can't believe anyone could walk by while a 16-year-old girl was beaten and burned with cigarettes without doing anything. Knowing this went on for 35 mn makes it even worse.

Methinks this happens in other countries as well. In the US, this kind of thing would be recorded on a handicam and then posted to YouTube. Anyone get any video of this thing?

I guess it is just easier to say that you would do something, even though time after time, people do nothing in these situations. I suppose the good people of JT are just never around when you need them (er us). Get off yer computers people. Signing off!

"Methinks this happens in other countries as well."

Not really, in my country the two girls would be beaten by the people around. It's all about solidarity and common sense. Not that it's right too..
