U.S. urges North Korea to compensate Sony for cyberattack, rather than showing ANYONE proof of their findings.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

what a ridiculous "request" or piece of "advice".

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

If NK wants to deny guilt and prove it by shows of good faith there is certainly a lot they could do, but it's SONY that needs to compensate people for the damage it has done -- and again, it's SONY's choice to kow-tow to cyber-terrorists that got them into their current predicament and given the terrorists credibility and legitimacy.

It's rapidly turning into a Monty Python sketch.

Yes; this is definitely Monty Python material.

The U.S. administration is “discussing a range of options” in response to the Sony hacking, she said, stressing however that Washington would not outline publicly what moves it planned to take. “As we implement our responses, some will be seen, some may not be seen,” she said

The whole world is talking about how North Korea's internet system has been brought down in the last 24 hours, presumably by the US, but there is no mention of it on JT. Even posts referring to it on this thread have been removed. Is JT a victim of NK hacking?

You'll find two stories about it in the World section.

"Washington accuses Pyongyang of being behind the hack that led to the release of embarrassing company emails"

What's up with the embarrassing company emails? Should the writers of those mails be fired?

SONY that needs to compensate people for the damage it has done

compensate itself?

it's SONY's choice to kow-tow to cyber-terrorists that got them into their current predicament and given the terrorists credibility and legitimacy.

It was the US cinema chains that wouldn't show the movie because of threats, obviously from the Koreans, to attack movie-goers who would attend the picture.

"Guardians of Peace" sounds like NK rhetoric. From their statements, the wording is consistent with nuance problems common with Asian speakers of English.

I say don't ask for payment, but use all this free press to promote the movie and make sure it gets played all over the world both mainstream and underground!

A bigger comedy than the movie itself.

CNNsdtated from BBC repoirt that there are 1,000 8terhetn station that uses for propaganda of N K. they were shut down few hours but up now.

About Sony compensation suggested by USA. because of this story went every day in USA, whatever way SONY telease for punlivc, SONY progit will be large. First story, it lets American people to konw this Sony is not Sony Electronis. From second day, Media started to mention SONY Picture in Hillywood. Then Culver City, No media say Sony Hollywiid. Quite bit of free advertisement, Then President came out. More free ad for this movie. More people will buy when released in DVF or Blue Rat duskettes. The news was simmering. Then this news Sony must be smoling all day long and counting future profit/

One more term and it's going to end up in 3rd WW.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I will go a step beyond, easily, a few of the questioning posters above.

Normally, I would like 100% accountability in this and often all matters of international interest. However, this would be a hard proposition in this particular case.

I do not recognize the US. I do not recognize US authority, nor any US word, or any US play pals, including media entities that would use any US claim, wish, desire, as a given. The US, to me personally, to my interests and to the interests of my interests, is without credibility.

Ride it out, north.

SONY P does not need cpmpensatipn/ Without spendng huge ad moeny, now American knows SONY iin USA is not Sony Electronics. Beside that, no need to advertise releasing of DVD versions in Walmart and any DVD sales organization. Well, if it is releaed at many TV channels of SONY customers, that is another huge income/ Sony already announced it will distribute the movbie in another platform. Now, it can reduce 007 film ad cost. Sony is not requesting anything to N Korea. USA is.

Also Obama Government should urge peoples not to sue SONY for leak of their private detail by hacker as well.

news: Houston and Atlanta ares theaters will show this movie. Sony stated that it did not cancel It is ready for showing. A theater owner did not say if metal detecters are used. He just said his theater will show.

Tic & tat with the criminal Gangs Of Pyongyang is useless. The mass of N.Koreans have been brainwashed and abused by few thousands elites (mafia) of Kim's dynasty. The world must put communist China and Russia on the spot in participating with this dictatorial over the suffering of the entire population. Keeping these mafia elites out of" www" for good and running them out of town are good things to do. Freedom to N.Korea. (Ban Ki Moon wakes up and speaks out).

Gets -6 thumbs down? What are people thinking? I'm with Stuart on this one. They(USA) want an apology first, this sounds like the J Cops methods. They have yet to prove the guilt of NK, you know innocent until proven guilty.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Geez, do people really believe North Korea will pay Sony? This is mearly a symbolic statement, the US won't go after payment. For heaven's sake North Korea can't even afford to buy food for its people, which is fine by me.

@Stuart Hayward, really? really? you want proof? who are you? people who need to know already know. You are just a sheep and have no say in the big scheme of things. Please continue to live your ordinary simple life and let the big boys take care of business.

@tapi0ca, yes yes please bring on your hate and jealousy for the US, I eat it up. I love your kind, you cant be us so you hate on us. continue the jealousy, we thrive on it

@Stuart Hayward, really? really? you want proof? who are you? people who need to know already know.

Exactly. It's like when the people who needed to know about the WMDs in Iraq, already knew about them before all of us. And they were very clear in telling us that Iraq had them, and that they knew they had them. So it's a good thing the sheep let the big boys take care of the WMDs!

...oh wait.

Well, if Kim Jong could file a civil suit over use of his name and image in a comedy film about assassinating him, I think a fair verdict would award him enough to cancel the debt.

Freedom of speech? Last I checked it did not cover hate speech. Imagine if that were Obama's face melting on the screen. The narrative would be a teensy bit different, don't you think?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Each country makes its own rules.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Each country makes its own rules.

Well that was cryptic!

I urge you to make a comedy about Obama getting assassinated then see how much sympathy and support you get when you get hacked or suffer some other form of attack.

In South Korea, they tear up, smear, burn Abe in effigy. Is it OK?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

In South Korea, they tear up, smear, burn Abe in effigy. Is it OK?

That is a tough question. I don't like it, but Its an old established practice, and that has weight in courtrooms. But a film like "The Interview" is a whole new level. Unlike burning in effigy, the film is truly international. An effigy doll is basically not going to look almost exactly like a real person. Further, burning someone in effigy is usual done on a serious note of protest, not as a supposed act of comedy, and totally vapid.

So I think you can get away with burning people in effigy. I don't think you could sue over it successfully.

So I ask you in return, do you think a similar film about Obama would result in no legal charges and no successful civil suit if the film was made by an American in America and he was sued in America? Why or why not? Is there a double standard there?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

tim, I don't think any legal charges will be brought against an American who made a similar film about Obama. Freedom of expression. And don't give me "doesn't cover" because it does.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@tinawatanabe How about a civil suit?

You know there are reasons for the disclaimers at the end of films, but if there was one in this case, it would have zero credibility.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

tim, Any fiction films have those disclaimers. If zero credibility, then no reason to get angry. I don't care if they show or don't show out of considerations. But what I do care is that South Koreans who are the strongest anti-Japan hate speech makers on planet are demanding Japan or another country stop anything for the reason of hate speech.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Has South Korea made a comedy film depicting the brutal assassination of Abe yet?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

US analysts are talking about N K missile capability and wondering why Japan is not scared, They now remember SONY Pictures is subsidiary of SONY Japan. For few days they forgot. Too busy in bashing N Korea.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Has South Korea made a comedy film depicting the brutal assassination of Abe yet?

That's nothing compared to what they're doing to Japan. You can make any film you want (that's what they are doing anyway), but they shouldn't demand other countries behave the way they want.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Some movies are profittable, some are not. It does not matter how much production companes spent to create a movie. If it were not daily stories of SONY SONY in USA, now this movie is getting attention and in some areas in USA, people are attending. In this case, SONY Picures might recover $88 million sooner than it figured. It must be thanking Obama scolding SONY. Now CBS midnight said there are about 1 1,000 online station in N K and 3/4th o N Korean houses do not have electricity, No mentioning of SONY in N K. etc.
