Unemployed 30-yr-old man arrested for kidnapping 5-yr-old girl in Chiba

An unemployed man of no fixed address was arrested in Chiba on Tuesday over the kidnapping of a 5-year-old girl. According to police, the man -- who has not yet been identified -- approached the girl at around 6:40 p.m. on Monday at the entrance to a supermarket in Hanamigawa Ward. The girl's mother was shopping inside. He told her that her older brother had been in a car accident and said that her mother had sent him to pick her up.

The girl's mother came out of the supermarket and spotted the pair leaving in a car. She called the emergency services to report the kidnapping. A police search found the pair in a business hotel at dawn on Tuesday.

According to police, the accused man admits to the charge of kidnapping, but when asked about his motives, he was quoted as saying, "I don't want to say."

brought a 5 year old to a love hotel..and he don't want to say his motives...castrate him

mikihouse.

Where does it say "love hotel" anywhere in the article? Reread the article and don't just go off on a rant.

But posters here see adult + young child = Pedo. Nuff of that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In my book 30 something man+ kidnapped 5 year old girl (not parental abduction) + hotel = Nutcase! Pedo or not it still = Nutcase.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Agree, there. But he could have been hired to do the abduction by an ex-, etc.

No data to go on yet.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Also stupid mother for leaving the child outside.

Plus the story about older brother seems to hint at some familarity with the family.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I feel sorry for the mother. I don't about what she had done wrong or right. Seeing your child being driven off by a strange man would cause any parent horrendous stress and anxiety... I hope to never experience that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why was the girl alone outside the supermarket in the first place? Thank goodness they found her as quickly as they did. I hope she is okay and can recover from this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Somehow I expected that he would be a newspaper deliveryman.

I remember how continuously paranoid I was - really, 24/7 - when my daughter was young. She'd disappear inside Daiei and I'd about have a panic attack. Of course, the chances that something bad will happen to your child when they are unattended are low, but vastly higher than when attended - and not worth the anxiety. My daughter's 13 now, so I worry less when she is not with me, but let's face it: I'll worry over her for life. Such is being a parent.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Kidnapped her at 6:40 PM. they found them together in a hotel at dawn the next day. Connect the dots. How did a homeless guy manage to afford a hotel room, and manage to check in with an unrelated 5 year old?

Must have been the worst night ever for that poor mom. I suppose she'll think twice about letting her kid out of her sight again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Old misunderstanding homeless don't equal poor, unemployed or no money.

Homeless simply means that he has NO registered residential address.

mikihouse:

" brought a 5 year old to a love hotel.. "

The article says "business hotel" and not "love hotel". Actually, guy in the hole in the wall at a love hotel would probably not have let them in. Business hotel was probably a safer choice for the creep.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Adult+child+business hotel=something strange Adult+child+business hotel+"I don't want to say"=castrate ASAP

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And people here will eat their words if it is found out that he never touched the child.

No reason to jump to conclusions based on currently supplied data.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zenny11

Nobody will be eating their words. It doesn't matter whether he touched the child or not. He kidnapped her and that's enough for some serious charges.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smartacus.

No-one was talking about the kidnapping. But everybody here seems to say he is a pedo and raped, etc the child. I am sure the article would have mentioned if the girl had been molested, pretty obvious when a 5yr old is involved.

I would assume that much was clear but looks like I was wrong. Aah the joy of JT-Posters.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zenny11

As far as I can see no-one has outright called the guy a paedophile either. What seems to be demonstrable is that he's admitted taking a small child without permission. No-one deserves castration, but this guy deserves little by way of your defense. He's a wrong un.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

dontpanic.

Did you read the replies? It is pretty clear what many posters here think. And read replies on other threads by same posters. Than you would get the castration, etc references.

Never defended him for the kidnapping, etc.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zenny, didnt say youre defending him for the kidnapping, just think its a mistake to criticise people for making assumptions by making one yourself.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No assumptions, pretty obvious:

brought a 5 year old to a love hotel..and he don't want to say his motives...castrate him

Kidnapped her at 6:40 PM. they found them together in a hotel at dawn the next day. Connect the dots.

Adult+child+business hotel+"I don't want to say"=castrate ASAP

But lets wait to hear more details on this case.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I know there were many cases of pedos or just weird otakus that have kidnapped kids.

But he seemed to have information on the family to know about the brother, and the police seems to have found him much quicker than they usually do. The yakuza often hire that type of homeless guy that easily admit the crime and say to they are just nuts. That kind of itazura is really the most efficient way to scare a whole family and make them pay anything.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cos well said.

I raised the same points. Don"t look/feel like a pedo attempt. Maybe Yakuza, maybe an ex/family.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

My girl, just about five, would not be more than 5 feet away in a supermarket, outside, hand in hand all the way, until it is safe from cars, bicycles and weirdos.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Y'all need to be handcuffing your kids to you everytime you leave the house.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zenny11:

" Don"t look/feel like a pedo attempt. Maybe Yakuza, maybe an ex/family. "

And how does a "pedo attempt" look/feel??

Yakuza are hardly famous for playing with 5-year olds all night, and the article says nothing about family.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yaawn.

Where does the article say that he played with her? Give it a rest. Bored now.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No need for handcuffs, just due attention, dude. Keep your children safe. It's your job goddammit.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wonder if I were to get in trouble if I took this 30 year unemployed man to a business hotel for no apparent reason, gave him a piece of my mind on abducting 5 year children, then answering “I don’t want to say” when asked why did you do this by the J-cops...

Just throwing it out there. Nothing sexual, but just asking him why he does such things. Yes I have children and am concerned about predators doing the same things to my kids.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Again a mother with no common sense! why would you leave a 5 year old alone? dude get some common sense!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He is unusual. Kidnapping is one of the dirty criminals. A person who usually become a target for kidnapping is a girl. She looks feeble , so that's why the 30 years old man did a bad behavior. However, as long as the government stop rising a large number of unemployment rate, the other people will do that. We have to think the idea not only from his motives but also need to think from other angles.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

approached the girl at around 6:40 p.m. on Monday

Disappears at 6:40pm...

A police search found the pair in a business hotel at dawn on Tuesday

Found basically 12 hours later...?

This is when you absolutely don't need clown cops...

How long did it take to arrive at the scene...?

Unbelievable.... Thank god she's alive, but how long does it take cops to show up..? They only have a Koban every 200 meters...

By the grace of God, she's alive today, but probably scarred for life...

And who leaves a 5-year girl alone outside in a parking lot for 30 minutes..? Incompetent parents... That mother should be charged with child endangerment... Or does that make too much "Common-Sense....?"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

mindovermatter.

You are aware that koban cops are NOT the ones responding to callouts, etc. Different jobs and category.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Love it. Zenny is all up in arms about posters taking liberties. And then he takes his own liberties in interpreting what others are saying, but it is OK, because they are HIS liberties. Zenny when you hear hoof beats my friend. Sure the assumptions may be proven wrong, but don't defend this guy from your high and mighty pedestal. He is a nut bar and needs to be jailed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Never denied that he did wrong or that he needs to be jailed.

So what is your point?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

FYI, and taking it slow.

I was against the posters that automatically assumed he was a sexual predator and took advantage of the girl.

Nothing else.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I often take my son aged 10 on holiday and we share a room. OMG, I must have sex with a japanese boy as we don't look much alike.

Imagine a 43yr old foreigner and a 10yr old japanese boy checking into a Hotel. Call the cops NOW. To make matters worse we got different surnames due to his local registration. OMG. Sex crime, Cops Cops.

That is how many people here act. Old person + underaged child = he is a pedo.

We don't know the reason for the kidnapping, etc(except for JT posters who know it all).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zenny, don't be so glib and, who is ten, you or your son, in terms of maturity that is. An ADULT man kidnapped a CHILD. Do you 'get it' now?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yongyang.

I got it after reading the article, which some posters didn't do.

Again show me proof where I said he should got free for the kidnapping, etc. Because that is what I am accused off not because of what I posted earlier.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not excusing the man at all but how stupid can the mother be? Leaving a 5 year old alone outside the front of supermarket?

Too many people here seem to be lulled into thinking Japan is so safe it's ok to just leave your kids alone anywhere. I remember a few months ago at the local supermarket I saw an infant in a carseat sleeping alone in the car next to me. It wasn't hot enough to endanger the kid's life but... really? Leaving an infant alone in a parked car?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

People not paying attention to their kids? Seems like business as usual in Japan!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not excusing the man at all but how stupid can the mother be? Leaving a 5 year old alone outside the front of supermarket?

Not quite.

This is when you absolutely don't need clown cops...

I think it's brilliant police work based on the result that they did find the perpetrator and the girl. Much better than your country (hint: milk cartons)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@zenny, its hard to play devil's advocate for a kidnapping pedophile on any post board. I understand you were trying to offer a reasonable alternative, and if I were the victim of some horrible misunderstanding or misunderstood crime, i would want you in my corner...but when it looks like it, sounds like it and smells like it, you call it what it is....The man kidnapped a girl and took her to a hotel, not his daughter who looked different from him because he is a 42 year old foreigner, not to the possibly divorced fathers house as a paid reunion ...come on, stop fighting everyone. This crime is horrid.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree the crime is bad.

Not fighting anyone, just tired of the brigade here that sees pedophiles and sex-crimes everywhere based on no substantial info.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You yourself called him a "kidnapping pedophile", where is the evidence to support that statement?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Talking about the "pedopile" part of course.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

but when it looks like it, sounds like it and smells like it, you call it what it is..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't have any evidence, but I think that the poster that is super sensitive about anyone mischaracterizing the kidnapper as a possible sexual predator, and proclaims they check into hotels with a ten year old boy, might be a pedophile, or at least have a history with sex crimes. Hitting too close to home?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zenny11:

Why do you get so excited about defending this kidnapper? He kidnapped a 5-year old girl and spent the night with her in a hotel.

OK, I grant you that since there is video evidence we don´t know if and what kind of physical molestation happened. But does it really matter? Even he spent the night reading the bible to the kidnapped 5-year old, this is still despicable.

And since no family dispute or money demand is mentioned anywhere, I don´t see why you are so adamant about ruling out any pedophile aspect.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry Zenny, I'm starting to think you dost protest too much. If you kidnap a child and take them to a hotel, you are by rights inviting misery upon yourself. I don't know why you have gotten so defensive about taking your son to a hotel. Nobody called you a pedophile. Don't worry about it. But when you take a child from the front of a store and then take them to a hotel, you start to invite certain descriptions of yourself. So again, let the posters here have their opinions. They deserve just as much play as your opinion, even if people are posting just because they "like reading their own opinion."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zenny sure seems to like reading his own opinion quite a bit.

But you know, for all his protestations, his stance isn't that different at all from the general stance taken in any situation where there's a sex crime. The only difference now is that the victim is 5 and hasn't made allegations (that we know of here) of anything sexual. But a 16-year-old accusing an older man of groping causes those like Zenny to pop out of the woodwork to defend the groper.

I have to wonder ... if this 5-year-old said that the man touched her, would everyone (including Zenny, I assume) call the little girl a dirty liar the way they do when the victim is 10+ years older?

It isn't a crazy conclusion to assume that kidnapping a little girl and taking her to a hotel means that something might have happened. More often than not, it would mean something DID happen. So why do we have someone here jumping up and down to tell us that it didn't? I assume Zenny must have gotten a phone call from the man in question saying, "By the way, I am NOT diddling this little girl, okay? Please defend me from everyone on Japantoday who will say that I am!"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think it's brilliant police work based on the result that they did find the perpetrator and the girl. Much better than your country (hint: milk cartons)

If this is brilliant police work, what-ever country you are from must be sad...

Hint... Chiba isn't metropolitan downtown Tokyo.

They sure leave out a lot of details...

The girl’s mother came out of the supermarket and spotted the pair leaving in a car.

The mother saw the two getting into a car... So she must have told the police something about the car right...?

I'd bet money she gave them at least a partial description, and direction, if not, license plate number, and make and model... But JT (or the cops) conveniently leave that out of story... Might not make them look too intelligent to release that kind of detail.

I bet you can look online and find stories of police (in the U.S.) catching in the act, child abductions, especially when the parent or someone sees a young girl or boy being taken in to a car... There was a story not even a couple months back, where police, were able to spot the car within minutes, after a child was abducted...

It's the ones that no-one sees the child being abducted that usually have a bad ending, but it's quite the opposite, when a witness is able to contact police, within minutes of a child abduction.

JN police aren't trained for this... That's why this kind of in-experienced, crappy at best, incompetent at worst, police work continues to happen... When you make the bicycle registration enforcement, the cops top priority, how can you expect these people to do anything at all well, except stop people on bikes...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He told her that her older brother had been in a car accident and said that her mother had sent him to pick her up.

Taking a chance on whether or not she had an older brother? Inside knowledge? Is the man actually the father? No details forthcoming....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Monkeyz, we know nothing don't we ? The thing is the guy is presented like the robot-portrait of a yakuza, those guy that do the dirty job and don't mind getting arrested and playing dumb so the rest of the mob is not getting investigated. That can be just "by chance" that the article is written that way. No idea. Is it "defending" him to say that ? It's better if he is a gangster than a pedophile for you ? You have a preference if that happens to a kid in your family ? I don't, I find any hypothesis equally awful. But if he is not alone in that story, it's scarier as the police has arrested only one guy and that would mean this family is not safe now. I'd be them, in doubt I'd move away without delay.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's not as though it's a leap across a chasm of impossible-possibility to connect a few dots, which human nature does, you know, grown man takes child to a hotel against her will... it is not an unfair or irrational conclusion to come to. It is within the realms of reality, that the child was subjected to sexual abuse. Your rambling assumption that it's connected to the Yakuza is less plausible by a LONG way. You doeth protest too much about people making the not unreasonable conclusion that they have.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LOL. Like I wrote, not wired right. Enjoy your reality.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe not wired right but I can read and NOT mix up posters:

Cos at 06:16 PM JST - 29th December I know there were many cases of pedos or just weird otakus that have kidnapped kids.

The truth is that most pedophiles don't kidnap kids, and that leaves plenty of reason to believe he had other intentions, such as selling her or raising her as her own kid.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hmm something fishy about this case!!!!!!!!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

zenny...while you are correct in saying that we don't have all the details in the case, and that nothing may have happened, it is pretty natural for folks to come to the conclusion that they have come to. An adult man abducts a little girl...of course people are going to assume the worst; not only did he take her away in the car but they were found in a hotel...that looks terribly suspicious. There is no proof but that is automatically where most folks' minds are going to go, out of fear for the girl's well-being. And don't hold your breath for further details; I don't know about you but I have never seen any abduction stories on here followed up with with details about molestation, etc. That probably saves families a lot of grief rather than have the ordeal dragged out publicly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Monkeyz, if there was a post here defending the man, I must have missed it.

Pointing out that he might not be a pedophile won't reduce his jail time you know. In fact, the whole discussion of that topic is somewhat irrelevant. There are many things that could bounce around in a man's head to instigate this crime. Harping on that one is just not useful in any way whatsoever except to get a mob organized.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

rumwithscissors:

" such as selling her or raising her as her own kid. "

Come again?? Those far-out scenarios seem more plausible to you than a pedo acting on impuls? Maybe you want to cut down on the rum...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"it is a little worrisome when certain people have to blurt out the word "pedo" every time an adult male and a female child are mentioned in the same sentence."

Buddy, when "adult male" and "female child" are mentioned in a sentence that includes "abducted" and "found in a business hotel" things kinda change.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why were they at a hotel? Well for starters the man has no residence. Next, its December, so sleeping in the car would be a little cold. People do tend to be sleeping before dawn you know. And yes, sleeping the "other" use of a bed if you can wrap your fixated mind around that concept.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

SICK!!!! Lock `im up and throw away the key.....and the mother ought to be brought up on charges of negligence.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MeanRingo at 03:03 AM JST - 31st December

Well stated....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, some posters are getting the New Year jitters, I, as many here, feel that it's a fair and logical conclusion to put forward that the perp could have been sexually motivated, I go with that scenario over any --much more far-fetched-- Yakuza involvement, or international child sale.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

do they have an "amber alert" style system in japan?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Kidnapping children - death penalty - no repeat offenders. I see no reason to lock them up - cuz I have to pay for their incarceration - so you're potentially penalizing me twice for this social misfit's behavior - once when they kidnap my kids and assuming you can actually capture and successfully prosecute - which I also have to pay for - then you want me to pay for his free room, board, healthcare, laundry services etc ad infinitum? If you feel so strongly - please pay my share of taxes for this criminal.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Any connection between this and the child-porn comic books that the publishers and newspapers in Japan have defended on 'freedom of speech' grounds?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

12 year sensei:

No.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"while you are correct in saying that we don't have all the details in the case, and that nothing may have happened"

It is not "may have", it IS "nothing has happened" according the articles in Japanese. The guy was arrested at midnight (early dawn ?). The girl was on the bicycle parking with her elder brother but the guy told the boy to go and call his Mum. Then he told the girl to come with him in a taxi. Nobody saw them. The mother looked for her and then called the cops.

He went to a business hotel in another part of the city, a place where he lived before -not smart to suddenly appear with a kid if you don't want to be noticed. No more informations.

It is confirmed that he has no official job nor official house. Maybe he's a rich heir like Paris Hilton and he stays at hotels and travels. Maybe he has the kind of jobs and living arrangements that are done without any official document. I'm surprised so many of you believe the first case is more likely. And well, Japan, year 2011. It's not 100% safe, but random crimes are not the majority. You risk more to have your kids kidnapped/abused/killed by your current or ex-family (or at their request) than by an unrelated guy.

He can be a pedophile. Or a lunatic. Or neither.
