Is this also reported elsewhere and not simply quoted from this story. i am always doubtful of Kyodo News. The report alot of rumors.

So far I can only find this story's source as Kyodo News. Any others?

  • sailwind at 10:19 PM JST - 10th April

    Vox,

Ask and you shall receive. The story is also dated April 6th by the way.

Kyodo is just trying to ramp it up as usual I'll even go out on limb and say I doubt they are going to indict the Airman as it sounds more like the kids took advantage of his hospitality then of him being some sort of criminal mastermind sending forth his juvenile minions off base to knock over a few cabbies for a total of 8,000 yen and scampering back to base 'hide-out' of his place. Sounds more like the little hoodlums thought by his being a cop they would have some sort of cover to get away with this to me, just my conjecture at this point. And Vox brilliant post on the Yokosuka commentary article, couldn't have said it better on all your points, well done Sir.

    Sailwind,

Thanks! I thought it was all a bit suspicious. But even the posters are lined up to bash the poor mil Police.....

It just keeps getting better? Put them all behind bars!

You can send this young man down to Yokosuka, he can be cell mates with "Olatunbosun Ugbogu."

I am wondering where the military is consistently able to find so many losers lately... That's what happens when you lower the standards so far, that there aren't any standards.

And of course the Air Force Times does have a reputation as a military equivilent of the Enquirer... but it is posted there as well:

Disregard... just noticed they pulled it from Kyodo...

Voxman= I dont believe anyone was lining up to bash anyone. All the pro-US forces posters got there first. And funnily enough, I am not one and I could see through this bollocks story in a second. I hope we are all learning to take anything the media(especially in japan) has to say with a big slosh of shouyu. Im glad to say this site has led me to engaging the topic of the one eyed japanese media with Japanese people. and they are quite receptive to the concept although surprised. They can see why such stories are popular, and that its all about selling pepers etc, so when all these oldies finally KArk it(die) hopefull the younger ones will see through it all, or have something better to do rather than get up in arms about heresay, and sensationalist reporting.

    notimpressed,

What is needed is for Japanese to search for additional sources for stories instead of merel relying on the Japan Media version or waiting for a Foreigner to set them straight. They trust too much of what they see on TV. I know I open my wife's entire family to such things. When they hear a story like this, they wait for me to get home to get my "take" on it. I am their alternative news source.

Ummm is it me or this story really doesn't make any sense. Yeah kinda strange that a 22 year old would be hanging out with high school kids but that really doesn't matter to me right now. How does it go from letting the kids hang out which might be a good thing. Maybe he was trying to just keep a few of them off the street and doing bad things. But the police suspect he instructed the four to rob the taxi. That is a long stretch. I guess they are trying to take anyone and everyone they can down not matter what the cost is. Or how we paint the picture.

Can the title be changed?? He never admitted to being involved in the Taxi hold up.

Can the title be changed?? He never admitted to being involved in the Taxi hold up.

    According to this article, NO.

But the more updated news states that he did admit to driving the teens after the incident and the police confiscated the taxi's cash box in his residence.

  • japanyesterday at 09:37 AM JST - 17th April

  • CMEANDU26 at 11:22 AM JST - 17th April
