He was engaged to a 16 year old girl?

  • taj at 05:48 PM JST - 19th June

    The pro,

No. It was someone else engaged to the 16 year old. This stabber had just dropped round to visit.

This comment, by the stabber, referring to the two victims, is a classic: "“I pray for them,” Williams said. “I have no feelings of resentment.”"

Like somehow he should resent them? For getting in the way of his knife and his rage?

    ((taj shakes head in wonder))

The big beef about this story back when it happened was that the JN citizens in this case where not the type to become "press darlings." The 16yr had a history of working in the sex industry/strip clubs (the ones that are not gaijin friendly) and the other older one was of mixed Japan/Brazil heritage (or some other type of racial group).

That being said, they were not, as one would say, the best representatives to put a full public press attack against the USN destroying the virtures of Japanese womanhood. They had too many skeletons, like the young girl in Okinawa that Hadnott was accused of grouping.

However, unlike the Hadnott case, this case had plenty of physical evidence (i.e. two victims with stab wounds) so there was a clear cut case for the JP to press charges. I am glad that this creep got what he deserves, and I wish he could have gotten more.

After his 8 years, he will be brought back in the USN and probably ge more brig time or just kicked out with a Bad Conduct, but the felony time will be on his record.

    northlondon,

Me? A cop? Sorry, unless I have a computer with internet access in my little corner of the koban, I'd go friggin' nuts trying to figure out which bicycle I should stop and check its license.

On topic, I wonder why the judge didn't say, 'Oh, he's been punished enough as he has already lost his job.' And then give him a 2 year sentence suspended for three? Oh, wait, I see. He's not a Japanese doctor. My bad.

I think he got off way too light for the trauma he caused them. They will have to suffer for the rest of their life because of his actions.

So why do you need to bring those subjects up ? Even if they are true (I somehow doubt it), it in no way excuses his violent attack on them. There is no reason to bring those suspicions up.

He should be hung from a yardarm. Does the Navy still do that? Sarge? Zen your a computer dork, you should have the answer to that.

He was indicted for attempted murder...

The guy in Akihabara last week was indicted for 'suspicion of intent' to murder....

A Japanese woman kills two kids...she gets four years...

A drunk Japanese driver kills three people...he gets 1.5 years per person....

A man kills a whole family by his drunk driving...two adults...three kids....he gets five years....

An American...WHOOPS...SORRY...a GAIJIN...gets EIGHT years for ATTEMPTED MURDER...with ZERO evidence...

Japan......a country you can come to knowing you will be cared for by the law......IF you're Japanese!!!

I remember reading about this story in JT and I believe the guy knew the two females.

I think the argument behind that statement was just imagine the backlash if they were angels in the eyes of the media

From the sounds of things, it sounds like the GI was at the end of his mental tether (not defending his actions - in fact someone inside the base should have picked up on it and had him discharged before this incident occurred), but 8 years for stabbing two women sounds pretty reasonable to me, even if prominent Japanese cases vary a lot recently (people have brought up a number of cases where Japanese got a slap on the wrist, but cases where the death sentence has been given have increased exponentially over the past decade - and they can't all be gaijin)

Its good he finally got his sentence. He did know both the females, they were the usual honch crawlers....the 16 now 17yr did have a history of running around and her older companion was just as bad. If you lived around the area you would see the same faces on the same nights doing the same thing with different people. Oh, JT thanks for editing the post made by the guys who said get out of japan to the americans living here.

northlondon, I brought the issue about the girls to make a point. It seems as a gaijin, whenver crimes are committed, there is all ways some way to try to tie it in with the USN presence in Japan. No matter how slight (in regards to the crime not to demean the victims), it calls into question the US's reasons for being in Japan, and not the root cause, that some idot did not know how to carry themselves as a guest in a foreign county and is not representative of the entire US military population in Japan.

However, when the JN parties involved would appear to not be "good press material" these cases seem to get pushed aside and in this case since there was ample evidence prosecuted, but like I mentioned in the Hadnott or the Iwakuni cases, the JP decided not to prosecute.

Don't get me wrong, this guy says he did it, and I have no sympathy. I live in the neighborhood where this happened and I remember the stranger stares I received from people while they were still looking for him, since I fit the profile (black male USN guy). Glad to see he is getting some punishment, but just wonder in comparison to some of the crimes that have been reported in this forum is it exactly a fair sentence compared to others.

Now that he is locked up lets move on. There was a huge back story to this but it really doesn't matter. He got what he deserved and he will serve his punishment. Kind of harsh though.

"From the sounds of things, it sounds like the GI was at the end of his mental tether (not defending his actions - in fact someone inside the base should have picked up on it and had him discharged before this incident occurred)..."

I think this is an important issue that hasn't been given enough attention. Evidently, the people in charge in the Navy still looks the other way when they should act (I doubt that the other branches of the Armed Forces are any better). A particularly bad example of this was the junior sailor at a Naval station (I was stationed there) who was a druggie and trouble maker. Various people in positions of authority simply ignored his misconduct, until he was eventually caught smuggling drugs into a possession of a major US ally. That little public relations fiasco could have been avoided if various people where he was stationed had done their jobs. Yes, people in the Navy and the Navy as an institution can hammer you if they want to, but they can also ignore a lot of things if those things do not directly affect them and they don't feel like bothering about something.
