I wished he had showed sufficient honor and integrity from the very start of this tragic event. Better late than never.

My condolences to the family of the victim, and to the family of this Army man.

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. That's all the world is today. Shame.

telling his lawyer that he thought he had run into a tree as he found nothing unusual when he alighted from the car to look around in the early hours of Nov 7 after hearing a crashing sound.

How do you think you ran into a tree? When a car hits a tree, the car usually comes to a stop and generally trees don't bleed. The windshield was smashed, yet he only heard a crashing sound? This guy has to be one of the worst liars on the planet.

Not defending his actions other than to say if you're driving at night, odds are you aren't going to notice some blood and hair. All you're going to notice is the cracked windshield. The rest would get noticed the next morning.

And I'm still wondering how the victim hit the windshield without first being struck by the front of the car. Had he jumped from an overpass? It doesn't make the driver's actions after the accident any less excusable but these are questions that I think about.

If I'm soberly driving my car and somehow hit a tree and damage my windshield, my next action would be to take out a flashlight/cell phone/light source and examine the damage.
Not only that, but if you happen to be sober and you hit a tree, won't you take a moment to calm down, maybe call a friend, etc.? If you DID hit a tree, great, an accident where no one is harmed, but even so...I can't imagine brushing off an accident so casually. Especially if I was driving a friend's car (as other news sources have reported he was) I would want to take a moment to look over the vehicle. He's already proven he's a liar, let's stop buying into his ridiculous claims. Besides, hitting a tree usually TOTALS a car, the damage is significant enough that you usually can't even operate the car after wards.

Lawyer Toshimori Takaesu quoted his client as saying he thinks he hit the man after being informed by Japanese police investigators that traces of the blood and hair of the victim were found on the vehicle the sergeant was driving.

After committing the crime now the man begins to think, so funny. He went to the garage to repair the car and remove any evidence of the accident. It's clear that he was either drunk or rather careless thinking nothing would happen even he kills a man in this 51st state of the US (where he doesn't need to carry and show passport or alien card sort of things)

And I'm still wondering how the victim hit the windshield without first being struck by the front of the car. Had he jumped from an overpass?

If you think practically, a running car hitting a man will cause him to fall over the windshield as the victim would not stand still like "Robocop" and the bonnet of the car be blood shaded. The sergeant might realized the victim's presence very lately with droopy eyes and tried a failed attempt to move the steering and hit a tree lastly.

With all the comment on JT about how the Japanese police detain people and what they put them through I can't blame this guy for not wanting to go through their channels. He must read JT. It's not that he's trying to deny that he hit the guy it's that he was afraid of the witch hunt that JT has proven would ensue. Get off your high horses some of you. Anything to take a pot shot at the US military here. You should see some of the stuff I saw from the local Eikaiwa crowds in Japan.

  • Fadamor at 03:36 AM JST - 21st November

Well, he did deny that he hit the guy originally. I agree that the anti-US sentiment here seems to match the Prime Minister's sentiment towards Americans. So a hit an run by an American serviceman is evidence of why the American military must leave Japan, but the hit and runs by Japanese nationals are evidence of... I don't know... why the perpetators should STAY in Japan?

  • 5SpeedRacer5 at 04:36 AM JST - 21st November

    "Selective drunkenness?

    surely a deliberate oxymoron"

Are you kidding? For this guy it is a legal defense strategy.

  • Badsey at 07:09 AM JST - 21st November

The Japanese Police get their man once again = Do not commit crimes in Japan unless you are willing todo the time. Even the "magic Sofa" could not save this criminal.

  • zurcronium at 07:11 AM JST - 21st November

again the army retreads defended the guilty, until now he admits he killed the old guy. He is still lying about not knowing he hit someone. Hitting a tree is different from hitting a human or a deer for example.

All these guys are liars. He is telling the truth now because he has to, because of the evidence. Yet another criminal in the US military, another one added to the long, long list.

one of your 'friends' was trying to tell us that the Japanese government had invited this soldier into their country to help them and was now trying to put him in jail. You need to complete whatever education you may have and learn about world history. May I suggest 1945 as a starting point.

May I suggest you start your History lesson from around 1900, and don't stop until 2009.... Please...

Here's some more truthful articles for you, to enlightening you mind... Because a Ganko mind, is such a terrible thing to waste...

And you can read and reread my words and others speaking truth here:

And may I Remind YOU, He's only here in this country AT YOUR GOVERNMENT'S REQUEST!

As Always, You're are welcome for your freedom, please enjoy it, but remember not to repeat the same mistakes that caused such great harm to the world and Asia leading up to 1945...

This Criminal caved-in quicker than Nori-P! -It just seems the Japanese Police are on a roll right now.

But with a 99% confession rate, every one you lose counts against you =Pressure On!

To the "hit a tree" and the "he originally refused" comments... There is some confusion here once again due to translation issues with JT.

Local Okinawa news actually said he "refused to admit that he knowingly hit the guy and ran away from the scene". This current article only demonstrates what he has been saying from the start. He admits that he hit something, checked, saw nothing, and went home. Also, it said on the news that he thought he hit a "tree branch". If you have seen the images from the site where he was hit, it's a very dark blind corner with low hanging trees on both sides of the small narrow road. it's basically a jungle area with a narrow paved road winding through it. Take that into account when following this topic.
