Bottom line is that regarless of wether the girl is less than reputable, or early morning hours. Males regarless of nationality do no just grap females in a unwanted manner wethere it be on a train, bus, or street. This is a international rule of manners and respect. Him being in the military compounds the problem. Not all are this stupid, unfortunaley they have their 10%.

Why don't they send arseholes like this one to Iraq or Afghan? Why are they here?

    Telecasterplayer:

Didn't we shut you down a few stories ago about bashing the US Mil? What exactly do you mean by "A drunk foreign military guy belonging to a military whose presence has been controversial since about 1955." Do you mean 1952 when the occupation ended? Nothing controversial about creating a economic bubble around a country that has prospered beyond anyone's imagination since 1952. Like I've posted before, how would Japan feel if every stupid thing a Japanese tourist did while on vacation while in Hawaii was reported in the Honolulu shimbun and local nightly TV news. Theirs plenty to report. How about all the JNs that solicit women for prostitution outside the Waikiki hotels, until the police or security shoos them away. Nothing big, but by JN media standards we should be reporting their disgusting behavior. And the list goes on.

I am not sure about this. Was she drinking that night? 3:45 am (not saying that she was doing anything wrong) Was it a busy street? Did anyone see. Why when a woman says that someone did something to them the guy has to prove that he didn't? Shouldn't she have to prove that he did grope her? How do we know that it wasn't someone else? I am not defending anyone but to report this the way it is leaves too many questions for me to take a side.

WoW…. I’m a military guy stationed in Japan and the last time I was in Shibuya I had some random drunk Japanese girl grab my butt in the GASPANIC CLUB. Should I have went running to the J-cops and started some international incident? This country is a JOKE. I have an idea why don’t we go to the pachinko parlors round up all the J-males of military age who spend all day there doing absolutely nothing, put them in uniform and let them defend their precocious little island. I for one will gladly go home and enjoy the upcoming NFL season. Much ado about nothing!!!!!

I used to get groped like that on the train and in other public places by japanese men all the time. I reported it, but it never ended up in the news.

Is this something new here in Japan? This is the first story i've seen on public molestation.

  • CMEANDU26 at 10:29 AM JST - 6th May

I hope there is more to the story. I get tired of the he/she said stuff. Is there proof that he touched her?

  • keshii at 07:05 PM JST - 6th May

HoDeDo, are you new to Japan? I'm sure you've heard of chikans on the train. Groping girls like that certainly qualifies as public molestation, I'd say.

    "James Littlejohn"

Can you imagine the teasing he endured during his formative years?

    "alleged"

    He may be innocent.

;) been here 10 years. just wanted to stir the pot a little and poke fun at the double-standards that abound over here. Don't need two standards when one will do just fine.

If the US must station its troops in Japan (uh, the war ended how long ago...?), they really need to do a better job in screening out troublemakers from overseas duty. Having served myself I know that the overseas jobs are the hardest to fill so sometimes people who have no business being overseas (or in the military for that matter) end up in Japan and elsewhere where they inevitably screw up. On that note, since when are we allowing Nigerians to join the Navy? Are you kidding me? What, is there a secret recruiting station in Roppongi? Yeah, in case you didn't know, that piece of crap that murdered the taxi driver last month was a Nigerian national. WTF-over?

The military should take the same approach as the Japanese military right? I mean it is not like they don't commit crimes. We don't know if this guy is guilty and you are already saying that it is the US military fault. Why can't it be this guy’s fault (IF HE IS GUILTY) we don't know if this girl is just crying wolf. I mean if we did it the Japanese way then we would have 18 and 19 year olds running around killing everyone and then not really getting in trouble for it. Lets wait to find out if he is guilty before placing blame on anyone. devilok06 - What about the peice of crap Japanese military guy who murdered the taxi driver a week later? Or the other 18 year old who attached the Koban. Really no leg to stand out throwing out names and crimes. Need to wait for a week when the Japanese don't get in to something before you start calling people crap.

To all you who want better screening: as a serviceman stationed in Japan, I too, would like better screening. However, we are doing as well as we can and until the gov't comes up with a machine to take away ALL free will and humanity and turn us into robots, some will always get through. Do any of you have a better suggestion other than weeks long indivual screenings in a controlled environment? I thought not. Can we just agree that we (human beings) are not perfect?

"He's 22, probably drunk and lonely and she's 19 and hot."

Does his or her age really matter? Is it her problem that he is "drunk and lonely"? I really don’t think so! In fact if he was lonely he could probably go home to his pregnant girlfriend who is also a hot, young Japanese girl! He is an idiot, who made an idiots decision and he should get the max of what’s coming to him! This kid is one of those loser who come into the military but still want to play the Thug but we all know Military+Thug just don’t add up! Trust me on this one because I know!
