Why recall bad memories? Obviously you weren't here at the time when this news occured. The lady seemed to look like my present next-door neighbor, and incidentally many Japanese people I've met have voiced similar comments. It came on the heels of the horrific Om Shinrikyo sect. That it was your next door-neighbor looking female middle aged woman made it somehow shocking and dastardly to the nation. The purpose of keeping the memories alive is to pay homage to the victims and renew a call for clear and uniquivocal call for recognition of the guilty parties and their actions. Possible or not.

The woman should have been tortured by the neighborhood people for this crime. The woman obviously was no stranger to attempted murder and poisoning. And her husband also should have been exterminated. These kind of people are dangerous to society's normal people. Maybe good therapy for those stressed out workers to vent their frustrations on.

I remember this sad incident very well and didn't realize just how easy it could happen to anyone of us. Just this past Saturday, at a neighborhood omatsuri in Yokohama, I saw two ladies hauling a big pot of curry from one of their homes to the area of the matsuri. The first thing that came to mind was this Wakayama incident. I ended up going to the matsuri and DID have the curry and boy was it good. Fortunately, there was no poison in that curry but it occurred to me just how easy it can happen again.

I remember it well - it happened the weekend I arrived in Japan as a new JET and was all over the news screens in arrivals at Narita. 10 years has gone very quickly....
