Woman, 37, arrested for stabbing 14-year-old son with knife after argument over PC

TOKYO —

Police on Thursday morning arrested a 37-year-old woman for attacking her 14-year-old son after the two argued over his use of a personal computer late at night. According to police, the mother called police around 4:20 a.m., telling them she had stabbed her son with a knife in his room on the second floor of their house in Nerima.

The boy suffered minor injuries to his face and head, police said. The mother was quoted by police as saying, “I bought the PC for him a few days ago. But he’s been using it all the time until the early hours of the morning and he wouldn’t turn it off when I told him to. We argued about it, and I lost my temper.”

serindipity, obvious sarcasm to say the least. just seeing it from her twisted point of view.

I wouldn't quite call him on the computer late at night a case of not respecting her. The article doesn't give all the details, but if she had told him not to use the computer and he disobeyed her she has probably told him similarily for other incidents and she didn't do anything about it then. We need more details to even make an assumption here about the kid or the mom but obviously it was the mom who committed a crime here. Who in their right mind would pick up a knife and stab their son/daughter, she certainly is out of her mind.

dude, it's the summer vacation. I probably didn't sleep the first 3 nights with my first computer. Let the kid hack away at the keyboard, eventually he will conk out. As for playing computer games non-stop until your dizzy or throw-up, well thats pretty much what I did through my teenage years as well as reading manga into the early mornings. Uni was probably worse since now everyone was doing the same thing that I mastered over the years. We vampires just hate the bright sun of the Japanese summer. It's got to be better than not knowing where you kid is at night rooming the streets...

Why wont she cut the internet cable instead of stabbing his son. She is so out of her mind. Some psychiatrist doctors or psycho medicine needed here for the mom. Is She the real mom?

i'm surprised he wasn't playing World of Warcraft or it's japanese equivalent -- maybe he was just got caught up in some intensive research for a school related project >_>

as a way to limit his usage, she should just put the computer in the "family room" or somewhere out in the open so he loses his privacy while using it. Also, assuming the computer had internet, she should just use a regular old modem (without call waiting), nothing more frustrating than a slow internet connection that gets interrupted (possibly the best deterrent for prolonged usage).

I believe that Dr. Sigmund Freud would explain this way: The mother was really trying to cut the umbilical cord between her and her son (and missed).

    amannin1,

oh now every Japanese house wife are IT savvy geeks are they? especially the ones who knife their kids? They are real smart. All other IT guys who post ludicrous ideas on how a simple housewife could have manipulated the BIOS etc...shut up. This is a situation way beyond your simple realm. Hidden behind your PC too long me thinks.

Well now we have some clue as to why some people grow up and stab people as adults. At least in this case, stabbing if a form of parenting. I wonder how many of the recent stabbing criminals were also raised at the end of a knife.

    romulus3,

what does putting a computer in an open room have to do with being computer savy? perhaps using the internal modem (if it had one) might fall into that realm, but otherwise, I would just assume that to be common sense.

i wonder how the relationship between the mother and the son is going to play out from this point -- i bet she had other episodes before this incident, so their relationship probably wasn't too solid to begin with.

i mean seriously though, if i was an enraged, possibly crazed parent, i would just grab the computer and break it to pieces...

    Great upbringing techniques mom

What was she doing going up to his room WITH a knife? If you take it you at least mean to be able to use it.

What was wrong with the less expensive idea of cutting the mouse cable?

sounds like someone got a bit cranky while cooking dinner >_<

my mother has stormed into my room with kitchen utensils before... this is not uncommon for an angry mother to take whatever she has in her hands with her when she is enraged and start yelling. It's not known how it happened... but it could also be a case of her hitting him around while having the knife. If she was really THAT crazy and wanted to actually "stab" him... he would be dead and no one would be reading this because authorities wouldn7t find out until she gave in and killed herself... or if neighbors reported a strange odour.

Just take the pc and lock it away or sell it. Stabbing?! Come on, not that serious.
