Police in Tokyo have arrested a 48-year-old woman on suspicion of attempting to murder her 13-year-old son with a kitchen knife.

The woman was quoted by police as saying she had become unhappy with how her son was turning out and that he wouldn't listen to her, and therefore decided to kill him, TBS reported Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning in Edogawa Ward. According to police, the woman crept up on her son while he was sleeping and began slashing at his face in an attempt to kill him.

The boy ran to his father who subdued his wife and called police.

The young boy sustained wounds to his lower chin and jaw that will leave him recovering in the hospital for the next month.

His mother cut her hands in several places and told police she had intended to kill herself after killing her son.

Sure cut yourself up if want attention or relief from pain and then go the hospital and get help. It happens. Dont though pretend you were trying to kill yourself and dont take out your frustrations on innocent children. Your sons getting big and when u get out of jail he will be ready to defend himself. From you. Get help fast.

" she had become unhappy with how her son was turning out and that he wouldn’t listen to her, and therefore decided to kill him, "

Wow! Speechless. Just surprised the father remained married to this nutcase for 13 years??

but always give custody to the mother under the law,,,

makes total sense right? maybe it's part of a conspiracy to continue the population decline...establish social structures that encourage women to all become house wives so they have way too much time on their hands and go crazy..give custody unquestioningly to the mothers...population control will take care of itself.

I think a lot depends on how this boy was brought up. True, it is no easy job being a parent, it takes not only "strictness" but also a lot of love and understanding. There are never enough details in these sad stories so we don't know if there were any other "circumstances" but a bit of "self control" on the part of this mother would have gone a long way...

Seriously, she thought cutting up her sons face was the best way to go about killing him? Poor kid is going to be both mentally and physically scarred for the rest of his life thanks to his mother.

It appears that so many Japanese people have become so dissatisfied, that they too would like to kill or die to be free.

Right 100 CPM. You just summed up a months worth of similar news regarding insane Japanese mothers, fathers & sons killing each other. Pitfalls of society.

this is unfortunate, but not enough information about the Mother other than she was not satisfied with the direction her child was moving forward. Many parents face this situation today, however the question remains with the parents, both parents in this case. Were they both deeply involved in parenting the child or just a one sided affair. Was the parent who was doing the majority of parenting up to date with kids and things going on at the school. Did the parent know the child's friends, parents etc. How often did both parents sit down with the child to just have a chat.

This is Japan. The mother nurtured her son for 13 yrs. non-stop. Do the math. Father is prob a typical workaholic Japanese salary man. She prob never got any fun out life recently. Maintaining the household, financial expenditures, raising her son etc . . The very drawback / woman's trap created by this society.

Just wonder what made her turn like this? Appears her son is in his 'growing' years and it can be extremely hard to have communication if the child is rebelling. We only know half the story once again.

@WilliB

My guess would be that he remained married to her for the sake of his son.

I know of people here in Japan in that very situation where the mother is abusive toward the children, but not abusive enough for Japanese courts to award custody to the dad, particularly to a non-Japanese dad.

So Ken san why weren't you yesterday at school? Oh my mother tried to kill me and i had to go to the hospital, that is no excuse where is the not from your mother?! Detention!

Where are all these voices of outrage when the father is the murderer? Oh yes...blaming the mother.

THis woman is a sad example of the ramifications of lack of mental health care in Japan.
