Police on Thursday arrested a 48-year-old woman for hiding her 92-year-old father's body in a storage box for clothes after he died at home in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

Mieko Taki, 48, was arrested for allegedly hiding the body of her father, Mikio, in the box on the second floor of their house around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. According to police, a caregiver for the suspect's mother, 83, called police because the house was locked.

The suspect reportedly said, “I didn't know what to do after he died at home.”

At 92 he would have been receiving a pension. I bet she was smart enough to know how to obtain these funds.

for allegedly hiding the body of her father, Mikio, in the box on the second floor of their house around 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

That's pretty precise investigating on the part of the police. Imagine, knowing down to the hour when she placed Mikio in his storage box.

Gee, lets see, my dad just died, what to do, what to do, didn't I see that movie... OH YEA! that's it! I'll stuff him in a box! Of Course!

Isn't there a pretty heavy death tax?

if there were a common sense tax she'd get away scot free

I hope there's some medical excuse (e.g. psychological problem with the daughter) for why she just stuffed him in a box instead of calling for help. This goes way beyond a lack of common sense. Sounds like something a small child would do in that situation. I'd hate to think it was an attempt to get more pension payments.

maybe she had no money for a funeral or was afraid the cops would force her to confess that she killed him.

Don't Japanese houses have gardens? Can always borrow a spade from the neighbors.
