Police in Tokyo's Katsushika Ward said Monday they have arrested a 41-year-old woman on suspicion of trying to kill her 17-year-old son by stabbing him with a fruit knife.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 12 a.m. Monday in Kameari. TBS reported that the woman called 110 and said she had stabbed her son. Police rushed to the apartment and found the boy on the street, bleeding from several knife wounds to his neck and back.

The boy was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police said the woman, identified as Chiharu Suzuki, lived alone with her son. Suzuki has so far given no motive for the attack, police said.

So, let's start the day with another parent killing a child, shall we?

My number reason for the attack: too much time playing games on cellphone

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

My number one reason for the attack is, his mother is crazy!

With her being a single mother of a teenager and all, I'm sure there's an extensive story behind what led up to this... but it's all speculation at this point.

It seems to become a trend in nowadays haha...ha...ha...

In fact, I wish it is really just a joke.

It's a pretty rough area, so as sad as it is - not surprised.

SighCops; LMAO..." Rough "?! I lived there 3 years, never noticed anything ROUGH about it.

rough area? well wikipedia: The Tokyo Detention House, a correctional facility, is in that ward. One of Japan's seven execution chambers is in that Tokyo Detention House in Katsushika Katsushika Ward is at the east end of Tokyo Metropolis.

Thoughts with the son, hoping that he survives.

There is obviously a lot here we don't know, but a few things we do know. Another family completely destroyed. The mother obviously has been arrested and likely to spend time in prison in any event. As for the son, if he survives, he will likely have an uncertain future.

It is sad to see how actions can potentially lead to repercussions that can last for many generations.

Mum must of been on edge a bit and blew a fuse. If shes a single mother so life cant be easy. Still no excuse though.

Before knee jerk reactions - it could be the case it was self defence.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

if you can't trust your mom not to stab you in the back, who can you trust...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Pink Team finally showed up to defend the mom.

However, they arrested the MOM. Not the kid.

Apparently, (if Google Translate of three Japanese news articles are accurate), the kid was sleeping, and she stabbed him around a dozen times.

I think it's another case of a family unit that could have benefited from some way to address relationship and mental problems honestly and openly instead of putting up a front until reaching a breaking point. The public face/private face culture is failing its people when even problems within a family are covered up or so internalized the only solution is to act out violently.

So many japanese woman attacking their children violently. this is insane but a sure sign that yhe Japanese system lacks psychological support for people under severe stress.

@WA4TKG

Six years around that end of town. Katsushika is the Yak capital of East Tokyo, everyone knows that. Kameari isn't as bad as, say Shin-Koiwa, but it's up there. Plenty of biker gangs & other delinquents around. I mean it's fine, just the nature of the area.

Where's all the postpartum depression supporters?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

What is that? A whole spade of recent stories about mothers trying to kill their hubbies and kids? Weird!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So is everyone going to suddenly start blaming this on PPD, too, since it was a woman again?

WilliB: "What is that? A whole spade of recent stories about mothers trying to kill their hubbies and kids?"

Indeed. And yet, no matter what when it's a woman who does it there "must be some kind of societal problem" or "something we don't know about". Stress and in the case of infants PPD are blamed, anything but the woman. When it's a man, though, no one suggests stress or depression are the fault; it's not society's problem. It's the work of some psycho man. Now, I agree in most cases that it is indeed just the work of a psycho, but I think that applies to women in many cases, too. Only yesterday we had a woman try to kill her husband because he didn't give her anything for White Day, as well as a woman who tried to kill her infant daughter. This kind of incident is growing. I agree there is not a lot of support for ANYONE out there with problems, and there is a stigma for those who seek it, but there ARE those who seek help and get it, and don't go around killing or critically injuring loved ones (or anyone else), and THAT is the difference between someone with problems and a psycho.

This woman is a psycho.

Dunno why you got so many down votes smith, your point totally makes sense. Women can never be wrong, but in the case of men it's just some guy who was crazy and or couldn't deal with what a man has to do in life (ie be a salaryman slave). for all the complaints about how behind Japan is in terms of gender equality, i really have to wonder...it seems to me that in a lot of ways japanese women have a much better time than western women. they are not expected to work and can stay home and enjoy themselves and even go crazy and kill their children if they wish.

It's like a Japanese drama but real! D:

@smithinjapan

Completely agree. Women can do no wrong. Simply no accountability is ever expected of them. Is this equality?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I am NOT, repeat, NOT taking her side, but has anyone thought the son may have been threatening her? Maybe over a long period of time?
