Police in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, said Thursday they have arrested a 33-year-old woman on suspicion of attempting to kill her 8-year-old son.

According to police, Aki Amano strangled her son until he lost consciousness at their home at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. TBS reported that Amano's 54-year-old husband Toshio called 119 at around 11 p.m. to report that his son had lost consciousness. The boy was rushed to hospital and remains in intensive care.

Hospital staff identified bruising and red marks on the boy's neck indicating that someone had strangled him, and notified police.

The boy's mother was quoted by police as saying she didn't believe she could go on raising her child, and that she wanted to go to heaven together with him.

According to police, the boy's grandmother said that her daughter had been receiving psychiatric care at a mental health facility.

and that she wanted to go to heaven together with him.

I don't believe in heaven, but I'm pretty sure that killing your son is not how you go about getting into it.

Kill yourself you weak minded selfish beach, but leave your kid alone! I don't see any mention of an attempt to kill herself either.

Did he wake up? Now the boy will grow up knowing his mother wants him dead. I wouldn't want to carry that burden. Now he should be allowed to chose his family.

What an unstable mother. . . .

Wonder what her punishment will be. Hope the poor boy will recover.

What wrong with her. If she doesn't want her then tell her husband side to took care of him. I'm sicking of reading Crime section. Japan has changing a lot but Government doesn't change attitude for preventing crimes in Japan.

@Chop Chop, I am in agreement with you on all your points including how the CRIME SECTION has become so depressing. However if it were not for JAPANTODAY Crime section, we would not be aware of majority of these stories. The mainstream news media has become more and more useless. I had said it before and I will repeat it again, many countries including Japan needs to address mental illness immediately. It is way past always being reactive when being pro active is the beginning of eliminating alot of these sad and unneccessary stories.

Yikes.

Alright, I understand that what she did horribly awful and disgusting of her. You should never endanger your child's life, or any child's for that matter. I am not trying to excuse her from her actions, because there is nothing that could ever justify this unfortunate event, but she is clearly mentally unstable, and what she needs is help - not to be called a "b****" and that she should kill herself.

I hope that young boy is alright and that this will not leave him scarred, both physically and emotionally. Best regards to the family.

A mental case woman, a 54 y.o. father handling a 8 y.o. son. Do the math? I hope and pray the yound lad comes out safe and sound. About the boy's future...uncertain indeed. So sad, to say the least.
