Woman bites off bag snatcher's finger in Sapporo

I am surprised the woman was not arrested for assault, this being Japan. Oh, well, give it time.

A police spokesman refused to give details about the fate of the detached digit or whether prints had been taken in a bid to trace the attacker.

Well done this plucky lady. The police probably didnt comment because they hadn`t considered taking prints from the digit until the reporter asked the question. However I do note a discrepancy in the reporting:" one finger missing—after **the intended victim chomped off his pinkie" and further on in the report " suspect had one of his fingers partially bitten off"**

Not one for dismemberment, but in this case I'd say it was pretty well deserved. Maybe it'll even teach these bag-snatchers a lesson.

The perp said not a word throughout, even when his finger was being bitten off, I read. He's going to hurting now. She lost one of her two top front teeth apparently. Hate to think what her dental bill will be...

One has to think that this guy will at some point need to get some medical assistance, so hopefully - as I hold my breath - the Jcops will alert all clinics, hospitals and pharmacies in the general area to be on the lookout for such an injury.

This woman is actually lucky to be alive!! Many of these scum purse snatchers carry KNIVES! Screw drivers! Etc.. She could have been easily over powered and killed by this guy desperate for cash up there in Hokkaido!

Well, a bit of scary but I am glad she was able to get her property back without being wounded by the snatcher. Probably her hard earn money. On the positive side it's good to see victims fight back.

I missed it at first too, but it say that she bit the top third off. So the finger was only partially gone.
