Geeeez! Slashed in the face? I feel sorry for this lady. This creep needs to be caught soon. When/If caught, how about slashing his face too.

Don't worry, he will get whats coming to him....like a gift basket for saying he is sorry and it is because he was bullied by his mother.

What's this eye for an eye thing. Never solves anything. YOu would just produce a more violent person. I suggest solitary confinement for a few months (min 3 cause we all know how much Japanese people like to be alone, so a month would be like a vacation, but 3+ hmmm) for reflection plus councelling :)

eye for an eye, solitary confinement, all doesnt work. Publicly shame these people is the only thing that works imo. Slash in the face over a purse, sheesj, you dont hear that often.

Out of respect, I was being nice. If it were up to me, he'd be dead. Saves on tax dollars.

Sounds like this is more about violence than robbery. I hope they catch the guy although it doesn't seem they have much to go on. Oh, and are we to assume that he was Japanese?

could have been premeditated attack, maybe he likes the woman however somehow was rejected by her... anyway, not enough info to go on

Bag snatchers usually use cars though i.e. drive by and snatch the purse. It is much more dangerous since if the victim does not let go of the bag, she may get dragged to her death. Here the guys seems to be on foot - sounds like an amateur.

I wonder whether these kind of crimes are increasing lately due to economy going south. It would be nice to see some stats.

Hope they get this loser although, from this description - The suspect is in his 20s or 30s, about 180cm tall, and was wearing a black top - it could be any one of 20 million Japanese males.

    • The cowardly acts of Japanese thugs never cease to disappoint me.

In Japan there are both bag snatchers and random slashers. But bag snatchers do not usually slash women. I think its more likely the guy was a random slasher trying to stop the woman and either accidentally caught the bag or intended to use it to bring the woman to a stop. But of course, as always, I am working with few details. Just saying he grabbed at the bag is not enough to prove he was a bag snatcher. Did he demand the bag and she refused? Doesn't say.

Jeez. Slashed in the FACE! I am sure if he stopped her and said, "Give me your bag, or I am going to slash you", she would have just handed it over.

And he didn't even get the bag!

"Eye for an Eye" refers to limiting the punishment so that it does NOT exceed the crime - in other words, it is a call for moderation.

Oh, and are we to assume that he was Japanese?

Absolutely. Had he been even SUSPECTED of being another nationality, that would have been mentioned before they described his apparent age.

    Hmm...

the man stopped the bike and slashed the woman in the face with a knife, and then ran away without stealing anything

Alright... so when did he try snatching the bag? This IS supposed to be a robbery attempt, right?

That's what I was thinking. They say it was attempted robbery, but they do not really place a point in the sequence of events for the actual robbery.

Gurukun, with your logic, I hope you do not get into the justice system.

To each his own. However, gitting rid of the trash will save tax dollars, reduce the trash that are currently in prison, and give criminals something to think about before commiting a crime. Why give second chances for stupid crimes? If he just stole the bag, okay, jail time. Slashing the womens face? No. Burn him.

I was robbed in Osaka while studying there. I was on my way home and I was drive-by robbed. Guy was on a motorbike and I was walking. Good thing nothing like what happened to this poor woman happened to me. Even though it's Japan, you still have to watch your back.

How about slasher and snatcher all rolled into one. It would be like a Japanese superhero role model.
