Woman dies after being run over by truck driven by boyfriend in Aichi

AICHI —

A 33-year-old woman died on Sunday night after she was run over by a truck allegedly driven by her 34-year-old boyfriend at a parking area on Isesaki Wangan expressway in Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture.

Tomohiro Yamakawa was arrested for killing his girlfriend Tomoni Oiwa around 6:35 p.m. According to witnesses, the two had been arguing. When Yamakawa got into the truck and started to drive away, Oiwa clung to the door handle before falling beneath the rear wheels.

Police quoted Yamakawa as saying that the two had quarreled over ending their relationship.

Driver responsibility becomes moot when a pedestrian carries out such a stupid act. You wouldn't hold a driver responsible if a person decided to throw himself/herself into the middle of a busy road. Recent example of this was the two idiot Swedes who decided to run onto a motorway in the UK.

I agree, its still his responsibility. If she won't let go, you can't endanger her just because of her stupidity. And driving a truck, he can perfectly see what happens. It does sound like an accident, but hes lucky hes not being charged with more.

Nonesense, he may have been just as upset as she was so he may have climbed into the truck, turned on the vehicle, and driven off without realizing she was attached to the truck. I would say it is an accident. Doesn't sound like he meant to kill her.

****Not unusual. Sometime back a woman her in the states ran over her husband 3 or 4 times; even backed over him once. She weanted him dead. She was stressed out so he got pressed out.

Most people in a rage don't consider consequences. And the enraged killer certainly doesn't consider the killee's feelings.

In the states there is a long list of possible charges for an incident like this, but Japan has her own laws. Anyway, what a waste of life.

    Yeah, love hurts.

Don't think he meant to run her over, that's partially her fault for grabbing the door while the truck was in motion.

still his responsibility to check that it is safe to drive.

So he gets out of the truck and walks around it to make sure no one is hanging on the door handle. He climbs into the driver's seat, and then realizes there was enough time walking around that someone might be under the truck by now. So he gets out and looks under the truck. Gets back in the cabin, and realizes there was enough time that some fool might be hanging on the door handle. Repeat.

Fact: It is never actually safe to drive. A whole bunch of unexpected stuff can happen.

Driving a vehicle safely requires more focus, concentration and input than a human being actually possesses. On the other hand, refraining from grabbing the door handle and hanging on when a vehicle is either moving or about to is relatively very very simple.

*You wouldn't hold a driver responsible if a person decided to throw himself/herself into the middle of a busy road. No matter how unbelievably stupid a pedestrian may be, the driver will ALWAYS be held responsible. Hence the strong desire to flee the scene of an accident. Even if you know it's not your fault.
And as for the witnesses? I wouldn't put to much confidence in them being an advantage to this guys situation.

The lesson here is, do not jump onto a moving truck driven by an angry boyfriend. Otherwise, it may be o.k.

they have been getting pretty dramatic n graphic in public as the years go by. Last week a girl put her head (Kobe) on the train track and I guess the head lobbed onto the platform. Guess she had one of those mushy fights you see as stated above...

  • kavikahi at 07:58 PM JST - 30th September

    Yeah this news is tragic.

  • DanManjt at 12:08 AM JST - 9th October

    That's not fun.

  • Nessie at 12:55 AM JST - 9th October

Incorrect. Point in case, the two Swedes in the UK.

In Japan, the driver tends to be held responsible for more than he or she is responsible for.
