Woman dies after hit-and-run in Hokkaido hot spring town

NOBORIBETSU —

A woman, believed to be a hotel employee in the hot spring town of Noboribetsu, was found dead on a street at about 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday in what police are treating as a hit-and-run incident. A passer-by called for an ambulance and told them that a woman was on the road, bleeding from her head. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the woman was already dead from severe head injuries, police said.

Police believe the woman to be a 68-year-old woman employed by a nearby hotel, and are in the process of confirming her identity. Police said that an eye-witness saw a white two-ton truck leave the scene at about the same time as the woman was found on the quiet one-way road.

That's Kita no Umi's home town.

I hope they catch the SOB who is responsible.

Shouldn't be too hard to solve this one.

Someone must be blind. Was it woman or truck driver. This is a pure crime and punishment should be severe. In other circumstances,on many occassions truck drivers aren't aware when they hit someone, it could also be the fact that driver was listening to radio or using mobile phone, and perhaps also drunk stoned. The question now is; 'When will cops find the truck and driver?'

Just tonight I was on my bike, and I pulled up to a light about to turn green. I looked left and saw a small compact zooming up to the light. It had a full cycle of yellow, and about two full seconds of red. Had I entered the intersection without looking, it would have been close. I huffed it on my I bike to catch up, as she stopped at the same conbini I was headed to. Some mom taking her kid for snacks. I gave her the stink eye, and she gave me the passive "who me?" look.

Law of the land, watch your back. Cops certainly don't.

A lot of the older generation Japanese do not have retirement on their mind.

No need, you can bet he/she will hand him/her self in within 48 hours. They nearly alawys do.

    bamboohat,

In situations like that, I always take a step or two forward and, when I hear them slam on the brakes (actually, just before that), I step back and watch as they give me an angry look. I doubt my solution or chasing them will make them realize they made a mistake. They are always right, in their minds.
