Gheeze....Chiba is getting more like Compton, California everyday.......
This is what happen if they try to increase more productivity by putting the factory far-far away from the real city like Tokyo, people get bored and do strange things.
It's interesting to note that the women gave them a call at 11pm the previous night yet there was no mention if the police actually visited her. Seems that they should have considering it was an emergency call.
That said, there needs to be more steps taken to avoid this type of situation in the first place. Restraining orders for example. Also, if a complaint has been made in the first place, an extra red flag should be noted with the police so that should another call be made for the same person, they would get a more immediate response from the police.
Maybe they should have access to some sort of emergency button which alerts the police when they are in immediate danger. Sort of like a personal alarm. Maybe it might help, then again if someone is determined to kill you the police may not be able to respond quickly enough. Better than nothing and also better than locking up every block a woman sticks a finger at.
I know that some people think that people who are labelled stalkers should be put away in jail right away, but you have to consider how many calls police might get a day on this where the majority may not be a stalker situation at all.
Does the phrase "there are plenty of fish in the sea" have NO meaning for these lunatics? Do you really think stabbing and killing the woman you're infatuated with is somehow going to increase your likelihood of actually getting a date? I pray that this young woman is able to recover both physically and mentally, and may her grandmother rest in peace.
These otaku-style bars and salons, too, should start thinking about increased security for their employees. I'm not talking about hiring security guards to stand in front of someone's home and drive them back and forth to work, but something smaller and simpler. Maintaining vigilant security on and around the work premises, for example, and reporting any loiterers or lurkers to the authorities. These businesses are designed to play to the base fetishes of their customers, where the customer is made to believe he (or she) is someone of supreme power or authority. Look at the classic "maid cafe" motif, with their, "Hello, Master," greeting when the customer walks through the door. Couple this kind of customer/server (SERVER, mind, not SERVANT) relationship with the deliberately alluring garb and mannerisms such businesses require of their employees, and you're looking at the breeding ground of the classic stalker mentality. The businesses in question are deliberately selling this Freudian cocktail, and they should take it upon themselves to protect their employees (and their investment) by upping their security. Instead of just banning this man from the establishment, when he reappeared and started hanging around outside the business, the manager should have called the authorities.
OK, I've heard of specialization in the workplace, but an "ear-cleaning salon"?! Can there really be enough business to keep an operation like that profitable? Amazing.
It appears the J-cops' hands are tied when it comes to stalking calls. I agree with the earlier posters who think the laws and penalty for stalking needs to be ramped up if it is hindering the cops to this degree as it currently stands.
Fadamor -- do you really think the J-cops could not pressure suspected stalkers into knocking it off if they really wanted to? I don't. The law may not allow them to arrest them, but I'll bet there's enough grey area that they could get their message across. But, that would require actual police work -- really protecting people, mostly women. And, we all know that is not what J-police are good at. They prefer to just sit in the kobans or check bicycle ID's. And, since almost all cops are men, I think they presume that the women are making a big deal over nothing, and that the guy is just showing some harmless affection and/or doesn't know how to express himself. These cops need some reality/sensitivity training, desperately.
News like this is always my priority to read. No one will ever understand the agony of being stalked if you haven't experienced one. I had it for a year.
I really sympathize with Ms Ejiri. I wish she had received an appropriate help to deal with the situation. I also hope she'll recover soon and would receive some counseling to help her move on with her life.

Fadamor: Ear cleaning salon is very popular among men as well as young women. It's now also available at Spa centers. I would like to try it out myself...of course after consulting my ENT Doctor...:)

If you have problems with a stalker like this call a policeman/agent but make sure he is not a stalker himself!
