Woman held over murder of 5-year-old daughter

OSAKA —

Police said Tuesday they have arrested a 40-year-old woman in Hirakata, Osaka Prefecture, for allegedly strangling her 5-year-old daughter to death.

According to police, the woman called the emergency services at 3:30 p.m. on Monday and said that she had killed her daughter, NTV reported. Police arrived at the scene to find the woman and her daughter lying with a handkerchief tied tightly around her neck. Police say the girl was taken to hospital where she was confirmed dead.

The woman was quoted as telling police that her worries about child-raising motivated the murder.

These people make me physically ill (literally)....why in hell do they always resort to murder as a way out? Let someone else (less insane) take care of the child.

And she called herself a mother

Having concerns about child raising is a normal part of parenting. Am I doing the right thing? Did I put a warm enough coat on her? And so on. It usually indicates love and care. Appears this so called mother was just thinking about how child raising is affecting her. Just disgusting.

Chalk this one up in the category of "killings and/or suicides that result from Japan's woefully inadequate mental health system and its attitudes relating thereto."

These idiots need to be sterilized. So selfish. It makes me sick that so many women want kids, but can't have them, and yet selfish wh***s like her kill her child for some rediculous reason! One of the reasons why Japan is going downhill.... Not enough mental health care that's ACTUALLY reliable. WAKE UP JAPAN AND HELP YOUR PEOPLE!

That was an excuse and not a reason. Give her a blood test. I bet there are some heavy drugs in there.

Yeah, I had not considered it, but it is possible she was on some drug. I still can't assimilate the idea of parents killing their own kids, so this sounds like a more convincing explanation.

Rest in peace, little girl. You won't have to suffer anymore.

I'm sure the last thing the child thought was "Why are you doing this?"

The murder of a child should be a capital offense regardless of the murderer's mental state.

Alot of these murders recently are concerning much older mothers (ie mothers who have kids in their late 30s or 40s) - Its usually the young mums and stepfathers who get a bad rep for this kind of thing.

I wonder why so many older women are killing their children?

And I wonder where the father was in this? Why was the child not at hoikuen or yochien? So many unanswered questions but a terrible tragedy for the poor little girl...

    Another tragic case of infanticide.

I hope you're not one trying to insinuate that all mothers who give birth in their late 30s have some kind of defect.

Why do these mothers who "worry" about raising their child resort to killing them? The poor little girl. I hope she was asleep or something cuz what a way to die - knowing your mom is strangling you to death....Horrific!!

The 'mother of the week' report is in. I hope this woman does a LONG stint in prison and must worry constantly about her OWN future. Knowing the system here though she'll probably get a two year slap on the wrist. I also hope she never has children again.

Of course not! What I was more hinting at, is the pressure to have a child, must be great for these women.

I mean ... its back to the whole "Christmas cake" scenario again - "clock is ticking, Japan needs babies (grandma wants grandchildren) and your not getting any younger, so hurry up" attitude.

I think that many, many women are pushed into having a child without really, really wanting a child, which is what I referring to more in my comment. Much more of them are older than younger - I mean we all know the abortion rate in this country is really high. Young women (and by young Im referring to 20 something year olds - not teenagers) have babies because they WANT to have them.

Also I know multiple stories of women who get pregnant in order to keep a man, and live the housewife dream too, without really knowing about how hard raising kids is.

What I WILL say about the whole "age" issue, is that (generally) women who have children younger are much less set in their ways - they are generally much more flexible about accommodating a child's needs (A women of age 40 has had 15 years more to do stuff, and generally have a very set routine) and they have much more energy to deal with how hard kids are, and deal with the sleepless nights better. Plus if a women has given up her career, social life etc to have kids, a 40 year old is going to find this much harder than a younger woman, who never really got her "career" started, and will be able to pick it up again after the child is at kindergarten or school.

Of course there are many pros of being an older mother too, and of course the very, very vast majority of mothers in this country (normal aged and older) are excellent, and while I am quite aware that it is hard to generalize, but Its hard to miss the number of women over 35 who have appeared on the news recently for killing their children.
