Charged with improper disposal of a body no doubt. Seems to be a lot of that going around of late.

Demolition workers must encounter all sorts of interesting, weird, and gross stuff in the course of their work. But this is gonna give someone nightmares.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

“did not want to be criticized and thought it would be gotten rid of in the trash”

They should check if this woman is a human being or a robot being tested by Honda in real situation. I hope they find a Honda logo on her back because I cannot believe you can be so heartless, without any feelings for the one you grew up with.

Sometimes reading news like this one make me think I live with robots or aliens like those from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", you cannot not show any feelings because "others" might find out you are a human being.

WTF!!! Are people really that bloody stupid??? They lived in the same house and he hadn't come out of his room for years? That has to be the biggest load of horse poop I've heard in a long time!

Three words for those in this situation: Get a dog.

confined himself to his room and had not communicated with his family for many years

I just can't wrap my head around this one. Going a week without seeing / talking / even hearing their footsteps upstairs is a long stretch. Wouldn't you think to yourself after a week of not hearing / seeing someone you live with that something is probably up? Wouldn't you just go knock on their door to see if they were in?

incredible.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Wow....must be a very big house......

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Okay, something is just terribly wrong here. Now, if the came home to the house after years and found the body I could understand. I'd still be disgusted, but I could understand. If they lived WITH the guy and he had never come out of his room or made a peep for years, I cannot understand how they would not have checked at all.

This is the epitome of what's going on all across this nation at present, and these women need to be prosecuted HEAVILY for the way they tried to get rid of the skeleton as an example. Crappiest sisters in the world, for sure, but also guilty of various other crimes. My guess is they'll just get a slap on the wrist, though. Welcome to Japan.

3 ( +12 / -9 )

I have to disagree with most of you here - this is one of the most valid cases of "unauthorized disposal of a corpse" I think I have heard in this country. From what it sounds like, they did not kill him, which is more than can be say for the vast amount of people who also also get charged with this and get a slap on the wrist...

confined himself to his room and had not communicated with his family for many years

To be honest, he sounds like your classic hikikomori. They can be extremely violent towards family members living around them, and its not unheard of female family members being severely beaten or assaulted if they enter their space without permission. It certainly wouldn't be the first case of someone going years without any contact from the outside world.

I assume he had no job or other family either?

However, a very sad end to what sounds a very lonely life...

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

The guy had no food, drink or toilet for YEARS and they never checked?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

How did they think he was getting food in? Teleportation? How did they think he was getting rid of human waste? Using it to power a generator?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

WTF? Man that's weird. They lived in the same house and yet didn't see their own brother for many years??? How is that even possible. I call BS. She knew he was dead, but didn't do anything about it...

5 ( +7 / -3 )

Nevermind that they didn't know what their own brother and housemate was doing. My question is how in the world did they get through a Tokyo summer without smelling that rotting corpse?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

if he had an extreme case of hikikomori, he could live decades without interacting with his family; raiding the fridge or using the toilet when no one was around.

but when his sisters found the body, they should have called the police. lacking compassion is one thing, but lacking common sense is another.

@ambrosia this was in hokkaido so it wouldn't necessarily get that hot.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Three words for those in this situation: Get a dog.

To eat the corpse? Yikes...

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Rickyvee: @ambrosia this was in hokkaido so it wouldn't necessarily get that hot.

Sorry, I stand corrected on the location but still.... You'd think you'd smell a rotting corpse in the same house as where you're living. Even in Sapporo, houses aren't usually that big.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

For this family to not communicate or intervene with this guy for so many years......wow, this has got to be the definition of a 'Dysfunctional Family'. If the sisters had an ounce of care for their own brother, they would have used outside help to drag his sorry a$$ out of that room at one point... while he was still alive!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Weird, she knew she was living with hi mand he was an introvert, but suddenly when she moves out she realizes "Oh yeah I have a brother!!" wtf

This anti-social problems of Japanese people will only get worse in the future so expect a lot more skeletons in closets....

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Wow. This is terrible! What kind of family was it? No way they could just not notice. Even if you dislike someone you would know they are gone....

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Am I right in assuming that since these sisters never killed the guy, all they had to do was report their brother's death and they wouldn't be in this mess?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Theatre of the absurd here!

More to come sadly

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Was that on moerugomi day or moenaigomi day?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Am I right in assuming that since these sisters never killed the guy, all they had to do was report their brother's death and they wouldn't be in this mess?

Yes...some people are really dumb...or guilty.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Whats up with Japanese people living with dead people? Is this what's hot on the streets these days?

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Come on! It's not a big house by any standards, yet only at the time of moving was it noticed he had become a skeleton? Is this behavior taught at a special class? Inhuman behavior 101?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

They couldn't tell the authorities about his death as they were ashamed ? That's just sickening ...... the sickness in society is erupting like sores, two stabbings and two dead corpse stories in as many days !

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Sorry my point my have been too strong, they were intelligent enough to organize a move. But either he had ceased to contribute towards bills or they were continuing to "collect" his share and were "shocked" to find his skeleton! Better get ride of that they thought! Again come on really! There is very little excuse other than...idears?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Kind of surprising to think that sister didnt know. After seeing the house in the video, tiny to say the least, she would have had to have noticed the smell of a decomposing body. Unless she had absolutely no sense of smell that is, seems she had no common sense so, who knows?!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I am scratching my head. They lived with this guy for YEARs and did not realize he was dead before they found his BONES? Come one. Even in the worst Hikikomori situation, that sounds unbelievable.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Say if this was a case of hikikomori, how has this become acceptable? They should of told the poor buggar to get out of the house and start living. But seen as they put his remains in the rubbish, they obviously didn't care for him much. I don't know how they could be so apathetic towards their own brother, its saddening.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I don't buy it. There has to be more to it that this... It's impossible to miss a body when it's dead, even if the door is closed. There have been instances where people have died in their apartments and the neighbours have noticed the horrible odour of decomposing flesh.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

That is incredibly cold - she had NO feeling for him at all, to have just trashed his remains along with the peelings and old tea leaves. He wasn't even human to her. Whatever goes on in her head, I would hate to be privy to it.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

dessicated and mummified ... maybe it was for jp voodoo

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@lucabrasi

Three words for those in this situation: Get a dog.

I don't quite know what you mean by that but if you mean it's possible to "throw out a dead dog" only a non-human person would ever consider doing anything that. We have just "buried" my dog at a Temple and it's very far from being "free-of-charge"... Nothing is mentioned about "costs for a funeral" but they could have worried about having to pay for one - especially if the brother wasn't even earning his own living.

Whatever the reason, it would definitely seem there was no "brotherly love" involved...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

They lived together in that house and never saw each other? Showers? Bathroom? Meals? Telephone calls? Anything? No contact whatsoever, kind of hard to believe.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He died quite young. It is unlikely that he died a natural death. It is likely he either committed suicide or he was murdered.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I just don't understand this at all.

Cold.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Oh no! This story is so scare. How a person can live with a deceased person and not notice a smell or say "good morning"? If alive, there is a sound, I think, even if so shy person. If no sound, must be suspicion. Actually, I have a suspicion by this story. Did she murder?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Could be a 2-generation House which has 2 entrances.

Just guessing.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

What. The. Hell?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It's interesting that she was not arrested given how suspicious the story is, and also interesting that the sister who helped her was not charged as well.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

As strange as this seems, a man living with family members for years and not communicating with them, you would think this kind of situation would be exceedingly rare. But sadly, I can tell you it's not.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sad story. However, the sisters need a defense. I deem it "suicide by door lock" and "confidential eviction (kando)." Deposing of the body was fulfilling the wishes of the decease by allowing him to stay "hidden" from society. The real issue on trial should be hikikomori.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Deposing - Disposing

1 ( +1 / -0 )

"Onii-san you've been looking a bit "thin" would you like something to eat? OMG He's a Skeleton!!!! I got an idea, let's not tell the family and give Him a proper burial, let's dump Him into the Trash Can."

Something about their story just doesn't seem "right".

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Could be a 2-generation House which has 2 entrances. Just guessing.

There was a post here with a link to a online Japanese news report about this and it showed the house., it was a very small wooden frame house, that looked like had one floor only. Quite decrepit.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

OK, this takes the weird award for the day. You would think that you would know if a person in the same house was alive or dead even if he became a recluse. Wow. Yeah, something's not right

1 ( +1 / -0 )

japan is beginning to take on a 'tales from the cript' kind of quality.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Even though it's Hokkaido, there would still be an obvious smell associated with a decaying body. Her story is not believable.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I thought my family were bad at keeping in touch but this takes lack of communication to a whole new level.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@Fadamor

I dunno...at that point (according to the investigative report) he was already Mummified/Beef Jerky by the time she decided to jettison him into the can...so there was probably no oder present...Dam, this story is creepy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The woman, whose case was sent straight to prosecutors without her being arrested, told police she "did not want to be criticized and thought it would be gotten rid of in the trash", the Sankei said, quoting an investigator.

"it" - cold.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@saketown Hahahhahaha!!! So true!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Saketown: I dunno...at that point (according to the investigative report) he was already Mummified/Beef Jerky by the time she decided to jettison him into the can...so there was probably no oder present...Dam, this story is creepy

Creepy indeed. But surely there was a stench before his corpse mummified so how could she possibly deny having smelled it? It would still take months for the mummification to happen.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

How do not know someone is dead for YEARS? "Oh, you're dead? I'll just throw you in the garbage." Seriously? You're gonna throw your dead brother in the garbage? WTF, over!
0 ( +0 / -0 )

Already mummified...ok, but they lived together for years....or maybe you didn't read the article perhaps?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Ambrosia

Febreze?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The house is a VERY small pre-WWII wooden house. It resembled the unibomber shack and isn't too much bigger. At most, it had only 2 sleeping quarters, and probably a very small living room and kitchen. Houses made during this era didn't have baths or showers, unless it was retrofitted later. Honestly, I cannot see how people could live in such a house without ANY interaction at all for several years. I ten to think that she knew her brother was dead for quite a while, but was either in denial or didn't care.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Japan is quite humid...how could the 'sisters' not have had a whif of their decomposing bro?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Horrorble" siblings...a hermit is a person. requiestcat in pace Masao-san

@Smith in Japan has to be the most anti Japanese/racist of all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Dennis Bauer: If Fabreze makes air fresheners and odor eliminators strong enough to cover the smell of a rotting corpse then I foresee a very odd marketing campaign in their future.

I assume the pension checks were going to stop...

What pension? The man would have been 48 if he were alive.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Smelly case.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

im also shocked that these sorts of stories still manage to surprise me with something new every time -_-

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh please, these women didn't notice that he hadn't come out of his room to eat food?

Come on the guy did not have a secret exit and what about the smell, did they think he was storing rotting meat?

They offed the guy and are now spinning a wild tale to hide their complicity.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

weird

0 ( +0 / -0 )

my guess is they're really know and every day they were checking the body?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

R.I.P....Rest in pieces. The guy was a hikikomori by definition. They're very difficult to deal with, and don't want help. The sisters were justified in leaving him be and letting nature take its course. He did himself in by not eating, most likely. If only more pointless people in that situation would similarly show the same commitment to removing themselves--end of a social epidemic.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

What a wake-up call... I guess I should go check on my parents. Ahhh, maybe next week.
