Woman's body found in cardboard box

The body of a woman believed to have been deceased for at least three days has been found in a cardboard box in Sano, Tochigi Prefecture, police said Wednesday.

According to police, the box was discovered on Monday by a man who happened to be running under a roadway on a slope near a large rock quarry.

TBS quoted police as saying that the victim is estimated to be between 15 and 35 years old, approximately 160 cm tall, slightly overweight, and has mostly brown hair with a small amount of red mixed in. No noticeable external wounds were found on the body, and nothing was found on the body itself, or in the clothes that would help officials ID the body.

Police said an autopsy confirmed that the woman had been dead for at least three days before her body was found. The cause of death is still unknown.

The box had been placed alongside a number of other similar boxes.

What isn't mentioned in this article is that they found a wedding ring on her finger, thus probably a suspect as well. So hopefully they will catch him soon.

Police suspect suicide ?

@StormR:

So she got in a box by the highway and then killed herself?

Some trouble involving interpersonal relationship?

Between 15 and 35?

I think even the actors of Bones, CSI and NCIS could have made a more narrow yet accurate determination!

I really hope the police are holding back information, the story about a non identified body found in a box with no obvious cause of death... Or age? I really hope they are perusing lines of inquiry that are being with held. Who ever she is she was a living human with dreams and goals. Does not deserve being dumped in a box at the side of the road.

The police can't tell the difference between a teenager and a middle aged woman? Ayayay!

RIP! Hope the killer can be caught before any more deaths.

between 15 and 35 years old? looks like CSI were busy!

@ham21 Who said anything about a killer? You know something we don't?

Crush

you think she committed suicide in the box? Or just that she died and someone packed her up and abandoned her body there? plus the article said "victim" so seems likely there was a killer involved.

i like the age spread and the "slightly overweight" description......

@Mirai Hayashi totally agree, if they can't tell the difference i wonder even if they will be able to know the cause of death...

"The box had been placed alongside a number of other similar boxes." all you will have to do is such for a local English art student! its something that we would have in one of our art galleries in London.

I guess there are no missing persons reports that match her? Poor lady. I wonder what anyone had against her.

After three days in this heat?

you think she committed suicide in the box?

@Wakarimasen I quite simply don't have any information with which to think anything specific.

Or just that she died and someone packed her up and abandoned her body there?

More likely, but still....the lack of info.

plus the article said "victim" so seems likely there was a killer involved.

Don't quit your day job to become a detective. The article clearly says the cause of death was unknown. She might have been the victim of heat stroke, a heart attack, accidental poisoning, stroke, dehydration, diabetic shock...the list goes on and on. She might have been homeless and crawled in that box to sleep then died there. It does not say the box was taped up from the outside does it?

I don't know. I don't know what happened. But presumptions of a killer on the loose are unfounded. I recommend to you both a month of solid read of Sherlock Holmes novels so you really get a handle on this "forming a conclusion without enough information" thing.

so they did autopsy but they still ignore the cause of death?

@Mariam Just to make it clearer, I think you meant to say, "they are still ignorant of the cause of death". The way you said it, it sounds like they are not paying attention to the cause.

Yeah and you watch too much of those TV shows. Those shows are not represented of REAL LIFE forensic investigations.

There is a video of a Chinese guy who tried to mail himself to his girlfriend as a surprise, but he forgot to punch holes in the box and he was found unconscious but still alive after the box was delivered. Unfortunately, I think this woman, perhaps trying to surprise her husband, met an even worse fate for not punching holes in her box.

Yeah and you watch too much of those TV shows.

You also should not have any dreams of being a detective. I don't watch those shows much. I prefer Columbo. I know the shows because my wife watches them religiously.

Those shows are not represented of REAL LIFE forensic investigations.

I think they are closer to the ball park than an age determination of a 3 day old body as between 15 and 35!

But if you are an expert, maybe you could give us some expert details on why this age guesstimate is professional and why the TV shows are completely different. You know, details and information. Not empty broad statements.

autopsy just discovered the day of the death, not the cause of the death?
