Women's sock thief busted in Nara

Police on Monday recovered nearly 300 pairs of women’s socks from the home of a man who was arrested late last week for theft in Gojo City, Nara.
Shipping company employee Kazuki Kanemaru, 49, was arrested on Jan 21 after being caught trying to steal socks from the home of a local woman. According to police, on Jan 18 and 19, they received calls from women who had several pairs of socks stolen. Kanemaru was caught dressed in his work uniform, gazing at laundry hanging on the first floor of an apartment building.
The suspect testified that “There was nothing that caught my attention [at the home where he was arrested], so I didn’t take anything,” but said he had stolen women’s socks from tens of other residences.
