Yep, of all the crazy things to get nicked for stealing a mascot statue has to be the lamest example. Sounds more like a college prank than organized crime...
Under-boss? Capo-regime? Consigliere? Or just plain old crew-leader? Really, can't come up with nothing better than "executive"? He must have been wearing his red power-tie when he nicked the priceless piece of plastic...
The Yaks usually just take what they want and the folks just let them. I saw a bunch of yaks just walk through a shinkansen ticket gate to get on the train, no problem. Right to the green car they went.
Strange in this case the Yak was arrested. The shop owner must have some juice or he is fearless. He was probably paying off one yak family to protect his store when this other yak came strolling in and ripped off the doll.
Hey maybe he wanted to stuff with it white power and transport it to someone else!!! Either way sounds al caponish to me....can't get him any other way so lets get him for stealing a peko.

10 of these have been stolen at about 200,000 yen each, that's a 2,000,000 yen profit. It adds up pretty quickly.

I don't know kittychan, depending on WHY he stole it, he could lose more. Fiberglass can leave serious wounds. Nyuk, nyuk.

Awsome, pinched for not prostitution or shabu or collecting protection money but stealing Peko chan. This guy made my day.

"Licking chops" is just bizarre in this context. That Japanese doll thing is either smacking its lips, or licking its lips.

I guess the Kid in him made him do it!!!!
Sounds like something out of Japanese Animation.

What an amateur! A co-worker once filled his apartment (school owned, mind) with "borrowed" traffic cones and other road work signage.
We all know yakuza can be vicious SOBs, but I think this shows what they are at their core - morons and losers.

This story is awesome. If we're going to have crime, I wish the majority of them were like this instead of all those bizarre murder and/or drug cases.
