Yakuza member charged with trespassing after chasing boss’s cat

A yakuza member has run afoul of the law after running over a shopping arcade roof, chasing an escaped cat on his boss’s command.

According to news reports, the 43-year-old yazuka member in Gifu Prefecture has been charged with trespassing after trying to catch his boss’s beloved cat. It seems that the cat leaped from the gang’s office veranda onto the top of the neighboring shopping arcade and took off. The boss ordered his underling to find the pet, prompting the man to scramble onto the roof of the arcade.

Though this actually happened in June, the police did not press charges until Oct 10. The yakuza member, perhaps not concerned about having something as trivial as trespassing on his record, readily admitted to the minor crime. Apparently, he chased the cat for about 500 meters but was unable to find it. Fortunately, the cat came back on its own volition about a week later, so all’s well that ends well, we suppose.

Police established an anti-organized crime center along the arcade last August and are increasing their efforts to expel the yakuza presence, which may explain why they went so far as to bring charges against the cat-chasing man.

You couldn't make this up... scary Yakuza, rolling their Rs and shouting a lot... and chasing puddy cats across roofs. Brilliant! While the police chase penguins and monkeys, the gangsters run after moggies. Daft.

If only they would be this harsh in all areas of Japan we could finally get rid of the Y menace.

The cat is now under threat of losing a toe for insubordination and bringing humiliation upon both yakuza and police. Yay for cat power!

Why is this news? I am happy he got his cat back... I understand pets can be easily considered family members. I also don't understand why such a big fuss about someone getting a cat back! He is a hero for trying to rescue that cat! Still doesn't top what happened to me ten years ago in Kansas when the monkeys at Manhattan Zoo got loose... and that Baboon was just plain mean! I still fared better than my fellow soldier whom fell down and took a mud bath! Still, I lost a fleece during my escape which cost me 50 bucks! All I can say is one of those monkeys will be warm each winter! I felt bad for the girl who was in charge of feeding them! I believe she was fired some time later...

Of course the fellow didn't challenge the charges, the cat had his tongue.
