1980s British girls band Nolans to make comeback

LONDON —

The Nolans, a group of four sisters from Britain hugely popular in Japan in the early 1980s, will make a comeback later this year, the 30th anniversary of their signature song ‘‘I’m in the Mood for Dancing,’’ the Daily Mirror reported Monday. Coleen, the youngest sister at age 44, was quoted by the British paper as saying, ‘‘We’ve all had a life but we’re back to prove life isn’t over when you hit 40.’‘

The group’s biggest success was in Japan, where they outsold the Beatles, and several of their songs reached No. 1, including ‘‘I’m in the Mood for Dancing,’’ the report said. ‘‘Sexy Music,’’ another Nolans tune that reached No. 1 in Japan in 1981, was sung in Japanese as a cover version about a decade later by Japanese idol duo Wink. The Nolans will embark on a 17-day British tour starting in October, the paper said.

    where they outsold the Beatles

wow!, but then the Beatles didn't have too many new releases in the 80's...

Key to this story, successful in Japan! Give it up girls, you are not the same 20 something young blondes that J-men crave.

‘‘We’ve all had a life but we’re back to prove life isn’t over when you hit 40.’’

that's true but the (male) audience that welcomed you then may not be there.

It sounds like the above comments aren't familiar with the Nolan's work, I guess that makes it easier to dismiss this story with sexist comments.

'I'm in the mood for Dancing' is an iconic song from the 80's. Glad to here their reforming.

I am sure they sing much better than the Japanese girls groups like Speed and Morning Musume.

The part that stood out to me was the blurb about the "idol duo" WINK. The 2 of them covered a song that was for 4 chicks to sing? Impressive!!

Screw The Nolans, are WINK reuniting?

After all the recent relevations of abuse by their father, written( ghost-written?) by one of the sisters, it is surprising that they got back together at all... however empty bank accounts and drained pension schemes may have helped.

Nice, like so many other earlier disbanded groups they are making a come-back!

Give it up girls, you are not the same 20 something young blondes that J-men crave.

    Which J-men?

the (male) audience that welcomed you then may not be there.

There will be a new audience!

I am sure they sing much better than the Japanese girls groups like Speed and Morning Musume.

    Don't be so sure.

Screw The Nolans, are WINK reuniting?

    High class comment.

how do i tell my dog to stop howling because it isn't the sirens

You are playing the songs and the dog starts howling, or ...? I don't get it.

Siren: one of the creatures who were half woman and half bird, whose beautiful singing encouraged . . .
