    Cool! Gundam rocks.

This kind of society shows all that is wrong with Japan.

Youth are corrupted by animation, video games, violent music and rap music. Let`s have a society for Judeo Christian culture, so the kids can learn something worthwhile, and become decent law abiding adults.

Just my view. I`m looking out for you!!!

    Speechless.

Academic & Gundam in the same sentence? What's next, a Ph.D. offered on Howl's Moving Castle? Or Harajuku fashions?

What do you think the Japanese scientists responsible for cutting edge robotics like Honda's ASIMO grew up watching? What do you think was their inspiration and motivation? What do you think fired and fueled their dreams? Are you at all familiar with the Gundam series? It incorporates a great deal of technology that may very well be viable in the future, much like future tech in the Star Trek series. I'm not a sci-fi geek or otaku by any stretch, but I'm certainly not as thoughtlessly dismissive of fiction-based technology and science as you evidently are.

USNinJapan2- They probably secretly watched porn videos with their friends while their parents were out.

Doubt they watch too much animation since being little kiddies.

If you lived here you'd know otherwise.

What is the difference between Gundam and literature?

  • Zen_Builder at 11:28 AM JST - 31st July

    Timtak.

There isn't. Lots of the early 80's Anime was pure SF, similar to Soylent Green, Silent Running, etc.

Also lots of SW, etc influences in japanese anime now so an interesting study on how the different cultures interacted. I can see "Blade Runner" in a LOT of animes (Silent Moebius, etc).

Look at the gibhli stuff, Miyazaki agrees that he was influenced by some overseas stuff(Lupin 3rd and Laputa Robot/originally from Superman) and now he influences them.

As was said above pop-media influences scientists and vice-versa. How many today know that the "Enterprise" was a NASA concept/study. Atom-Boy has a major influence on japans robot industry.

IMO, a very interesting study and can show some interesting results.

OMFG! Only in Japan. Imagination and creativity are the gateways for reality. Go for it Dr. Gundam! lol

Will they try and decipher how the statement: "But Cagalli is Crying" justifies military intervention by a third party into a precipitating conflict between two superpowers?
