6,000 Tamaki fans turn up for a big hug

Actor Hiroshi Tamaki, 28, recently held a promotional event for his new song “Wanna hug” in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, following similar events in Osaka and Nagogo. In Kawasaki, about 6,000 fans gathered to see him and 3,500 of them shook hands with him.

Tamaki has been rumored to be dating popular singer Hitomi Shimatani, 27, since last October. Asked who he wishes to hug most, he said, “I already have her.” Shimatani released her new album on March 19, the same day as Tamaki’s album.

It's difficult to get people in Japan to hug correctly. I always get the feeling that a hug in Japan is only for romantic situations. Look at the girl in this picture. Not much of a hug on her part.

At our graduation party last week I would say that only two students properly hugged me. Maybe schools should be teaching how to give proper platonic hugs like my school teaches students how to give a proper handshake.
