Schrader's 'Mishima' was great, largely due to Ogata Ken's performance

Tampopo yes a great movie, it started my ramen addiction. R.I.P.

Uhhhh... where does it say anything about him dying of cancer??? None of the Japanese reports I read mention it.
And it was Tsutomu Yamazaki and Ken Watanabe who co-starred in "Tampopo", along with Nobuko Miyamoto. I'm pretty sure Ken Ogata wasn't in it.
I enjoyed all of his performances, from TV dramas to films to documentaries. An unfortunate loss...

sk4ek> sorry..you are quite correct.Got me on a sleepy day.Ogata ken was great in 'The Pillow Book'.I haven't seen many of the Japanese movies he is listed for except for the Mishima movie.

The silver screen has gotten a little darker recently. Last week Paul Newman, this week Ken Ogata. Both great actors. I am looking forward to Ken Ogata's final performance in the drama KAZE NO GARDEN which will start this Thursday on Fuji. RIP

Oh I really enjoyed some dramas he made, Ai wa Doda was one of my favorites. Rest in Peace, you'll be missed.

RIP for Ken Ogata, I saw him in "The Pillow Book" and "Kagen no Tsuki" not very representative movies but I'll always remember him from that.
